Troy Lawson, 58, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away on November 30th, 2020 while undergoing heart surgery.
Troy Lawson was born on July 13th, 1962 to Tellis and Helen Lawson in Roslindale, Massachusetts. He graduated from Jamaica Plain High School in 1980 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Boston College, class of 1984. Most recently Troy earned his MBA from Strayer University in 2018. He had worked in higher education, nonprofit management and consulting.
Troy’s passion for politics began at a young age; as a teenager he volunteered on a political campaign in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2017 he was elected the first African-American Chairman of the Guilford County Republican Party and most recently ran a strong campaign for a seat on the Guilford County Board of Commissioners. Troy also worked tirelessly on several local and statewide political campaigns. He had a passion for education and was a proud member on the board at Gate City Charter Academy in Greensboro, NC.
In his free time, Troy enjoyed spending time with his dogs Oscar (deceased), Winnie, and Kramer, watching his favorite shows Seinfield and The Office, and creating new recipes in the kitchen. He was also an official Kansas City BBQ Judge. He and his wife loved trying new restaurants and spending summers at Carolina Beach, NC. One of his proudest accomplishments was reaching the rank of Eagle Scout in The Boy Scouts of America in 1979.
He is survived by his loving wife Stephanie, two daughters Melissa and Olivia and siblings, Joy Jones (deceased), Tellis Lawson, Jr. (deceased), Kay Lawson, Nan Lawson, Beth Allen, Shelle Maniscalco (Vito), Neil Lawson, Gil Lawson, and many nieces and nephews.
A service to honor his life will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Mt. Pisgah Church (2600 Pisgah Church Road Greensboro, NC) at 3pm.

I wish I would have heard about this earlier I went to high school with Troy and I also now live in North Carolina and was looking forward to meeting up with him after all these years. Mrs. Lawson may the God I know comfort you and the family. This is late because I am just seeing this post and I was on line look him up to try and meet up and talk about old good old times.
