With profound sorrow and loving remembrance, we celebrate the life of Wanda “Deddie” Kimber
Stackman, who transitioned peacefully on November 5, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on August 23, 1951, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to Pearl and John Albert Cochran, she lived a life defined by love, strength, and grace.
A proud graduate of Dudley High School, Deddie’s vibrant spirit shone early as a majorette — a reflection of the rhythm, joy, and confidence that would follow her throughout life. For more than 25 years, she served with dedication and excellence at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNC-G), where she was admired for her professionalism, kindness, and unwavering integrity.
Deddie met and married Michael Kimber, and from their union came her life’s greatest blessings — her beloved daughters Shytawn, Miya, and Brittany, affectionately known as “Her Girls.” She later found lasting love and companionship with Peter Stackman, with whom she shared laughter, faith, and devotion.
A proud mother, sister, Nana, and friend, Deddie’s love was boundless. She cherished her five grandchildren, finding her greatest joy in cheering for them at their sporting events, celebrating their milestones, and showering them with encouragement and pride. She also loved dancing, reading, westerns, and a good vampire or werewolf story — a reflection of her playful imagination and lively spirit.
At the time of her passing, she resided in King George, Virginia, with her daughter Brittany Rodriguez, son-in-law Jeff, and grandson Kai, continuing to share her warmth, laughter, and light with all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband, Michael Kimber; and her beloved husband, Peter Stackman, who remained by her side until his passing.
Deddie leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Shytawn Artis (Darryl) of Greensboro, NC; Miya Kimber-Reece (Lamont) of Scottsdale, AZ; and Brittany Rodriguez (Jeff) of King George, VA.Her beloved grandchildren: DJ, Bryce, Jaden, Jay, and Kai. Her sisters Sabra Meachum,
Bonita Cathey (Lonnie Jr.), and Terrie Goode (Alan); brother Billy Wilson (Veronica); sister-in-law Mable Douglas (Donald); brother-in-law John Benton; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Though her earthly journey has ended, the light of Deddie’s love continues to illuminate our hearts. Her laughter lingers in our memories, her wisdom guides our steps, and her spirit lives on in every act of kindness.
And if you knew her, you know—she’d never want tears without laughter, or sorrow without a little sass. Because Deddie wasn’t just love and light — she was fire and wit, a spark in every room, and a reminder that joy is the loudest tribute to life.
From Majorette to Matriarch, she twirled through life with joy, and now she dances amongst the angels.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 12pm at Persimmon Grove A.M.E. Church 403 Dolley Madison Road Greensboro, North Carolina.
Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
