Obituary For William Morgan
Mr. William Morgan passed away Monday, October 31, 2022, at his residence. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 7, 2022 1:30 pm. The visitation begins at 1 pm.
William Robert Morgan Sr. was born on June 29, 1943 in Guilford County, NC. He grew up in Greensboro, NC, and went to James B. Dudley High and Laurinburg Institute (Class of 1963). After graduation, he attended NC A&T State University briefly. Thereafter, he married Elaine McKee. Together they had two wonderful children – Katherine and Robert Jr. He worked as an independent freight driver for the U.S. Postal Service and was a franchise owner (cab #55) for Daniel Keck Cab Services for over 30 years from which he retired. With his love for music, he taught himself how to play the drums and later became a member and drummer in the funk group The Electric Express, which had several hits during the early ‘70s like “Life Ain’t Easy”, “Hear Say”, and “Where You Coming From”. The group was famous for their main hit “The Real Thing” which hit the top 25 R&B charts in 1972. He played back up drums with many artists like, David Ruffin, who was a great and dear friend, James Brown, Betty Wright, Millie Jackson, Jeffrey Osborne, and many more. He was known to the world as “Sweet Pappy” who always wore his sunglasses and always had his facial sponge pad to stay and look pretty (lol) and could play the hell out of a set of drums. He also loved being in nature and fishing.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents: Cleo Branch (Birth) and Alberta Morgan (Mother), father Henry Timmons (Birth), Marvin Morgan (father), and his sister Helen Webster.
He leaves his legacy of love and strength to his estranged wife: Elaine Morgan of Greensboro, NC; his long-term companion: Ms. Carolyn Ingram of Greensboro, NC; his daughter: Katherine Morgan of Greensboro, NC; his sons: William Robert (Rudy) Morgan, Jr. (Tia) of Greensboro, NC. and Patrick Whitaker of Jacksonville FL; his 6 grandchildren: Jarvis Higgs (Destiny), Paris Morgan, Javon Morgan (Keiyshawna), Darius Conner, and the twins Kivonna and Kraywon Alston; his 2 great grandkids: Noah Morgan, and Niya Parker; his brother: Terry Morgan (Yolonda), his 3 surviving sisters: Beverly Haith of Greensboro NC, Janice Timmons of Greensboro, NC, and Sharon Johnson of Fayetteville, NC; and a host of other family and friends.
