Annie was born to Charlie and Chrissie E. Hairston on May 13, 1937. She married the late Cathaway “Ray” Stevenson Sebrell on March 31, 1956. On Sunday morning, December 27, 2020, Annie Elizabeth Hairston Stevenson Sebrell, of Eden, NC, was called home. From this union, four lovely children were born. André and Bobby Stevenson, who preceded her in death; Darlene Hylton and Eric Stevenson, both surviving. Annie graduated from Douglass High School in Rockingham County. Annie was employed by Spray Cotton Mills for many years and also retired from there. She was a free-spirited person who enjoyed talking and helping others. She never met a stranger. She was a hard worker both at home and at work. She loved being home and spending time with her family. She always spoke her mind. She had a big heart. Preceding her in death were her husband Cathaway “Ray” Stevenson Sebrell, parents, Charlie and Chrissie E. Scales Hairston, sons André and Bobby Stevenson. Her youngest brother, Kenneth Hairston, passed on December 29th, two days after she passed. She had also lost her brother Charlie and his wife Peggy Hairston, Jr., and her sister Ervine and her husband Earl Ragin, and her sister-in-law Marie Hairston.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter Darlene (Terry) Hylton and son Eric (Karen) Stevenson, grandchildren Portia and Donovan Stevenson, two great grandchildren, Lunden and Langston Huslin, brothers Elder Thomas L. “TL” (Hazel) Hairston, Alexander Hairston, sister-in-law Brenda Hairston, Uncle Fred Hairston, Aunt Clara Hairston Blackstock, and a host of other relatives and friends who will also truly miss her. Everyone called her Mama and she accepted them all. She always said “I have so many kids and everybody calls me Mama!” It made her day.
Aunt Annie was loved very dearly by all of her nieces and nephews. She will be missed.--Erica Hairston Seaman
