Cora Broadnax, 100, of Madison, NC passed, Saturday, September 16, 2023. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.Friday, September 22, 2023 at Perry Spencer Funeral, Madison, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 23, 2023 Mary D. Perry Memorial Chapel of Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Eden Garden Cemetery, Eden, NC.
Mrs. Cora Elizabeth Scales Broadnax was born
June 20, 1923, in Stokes County to the late Grant Scales and the late Gertrude Scales. She departed this life on September 16, 2023 at 100 years of age.
Cora worked on the farm with her late husband, Joe Allen Broadnax for many years, until she started working as a machine operator in textiles until she retired. She was known for her baking and sewing for her neighbors and friends. Cora was a member of Hayes Chapel United Methodist Church in Madison, NC.
Along with her husband of 69 years, she was preceded by her daughter; Minnie Joyner, son; Joe Thomas Broadnax, sisters; Mae Pearl “Polly” Barham, Lucy Ellen Moore and Louise Winchester, brothers; Samuel H. Scales, Robert L. Scales, Sr., James T. Scales and sister-in-law; Dorothy Broadnax.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Her daughters; Bertha Washington of Greensboro, NC and Evelyn Lowe (Danny) of Madison, NC, son; William Broadnax (Christine) of Mayodan, NC. Eight grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

The loss of a mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know. May her goodness, her loving heart, her humble spirit, her wisdom and her caring soul live on in each of you. She was such a blessing to everyone who knew her. She lived a long and blessed life and will be sadly missed by family, friends and all those whose lives she touched. The life she lived is the legacy she leaves. We pray that the memories you all have of Granny will bring comfort during this difficult season and in the days ahead. May God continue to watch over and bless each of you. Praying for and with you all.
