Donald R. Hairston, 75, of Eden, NC died, Monday, March 8, 2021. A public viewing will be held Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Eden, NC. Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2021 at Hamlin Cemetery, Eden, NC.
Donald “Donnie” Ray Hairston, was born in Rockingham County on February 26, 1946 to the late Bernard and Irene (Clark) Hairston. He departed this life on Sunday, March 7, 2021. On April 18, 1966, he joined in holy matrimony to the former Elwina Gale Ray, to which three sons were born, Quinton, Donald, and Dwight. He was a very kind man, who never met a stranger. He had a love for all things automotive and was a mentor to the younger men in the community. He loved his family and served his church faithfully. He held positions at The New Saint Paul Baptist Church as a Trustee, served as Chair of the Laymen Ministry, Co-Chair for the collaboration of The Charlie Mills Golf Tournament, member of the Usher Board, an active member of the Adult Men Sunday School Class, and Bible Study attendee. Even following his health decline, he remained dutiful and continued to be a servant for God by ushering every first Sunday and any other time he was needed. Donnie served in the United States Air Force for four years, ultimately reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served during the Vietnam War stationed in Thailand. Donnie also worked for Mohawk Industries for over 40 years where his most recent job was as a manager before he retired in 2016. He is proceeded in death by two sons, Donald NcNeil Hairston and Dwight Lamont Hairston. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Elwina Hairston, son Quinton Hairston (Sandy) of Winston Salem, NC, grandchildren Tanika Williams (Clarence) of Greensboro, NC, Alicia Hairston of Eden, NC, Donald Dwight Hairston, Tory Martin, Tyler Martin, LeAsia Martin, Angel Wade all of Georgia, and great-granddaughter McKenzi Gregory. Sister Patricia Paige (James) of Texas, brothers George ‘Bernie’ Hairston (Liaretta) of Eden, NC, and William Roberts of Greensboro, NC, bonus daughters Kimberly Martin (Brian) of Georgia and Tan Hairston of Eden, NC, and a host of nieces and nephews. He has two Godchildren, Jasmine Poole of Winston Salem, NC and Jaela Shekinah Prunty of Eden, NC.

He always had a beautiful smile on his face and loved ushering and his church family. He is really going to be missed in our community and by everyone that knew him.
