Dorothy Lee Hairston Broadnax departed this life on September 19, 2023. She was born September 14, 1935 to the late Henry Colandus Hairston and Mazie Mitchell.
She gave her life to the Lord at an early age and became a member of True Light Temple of Deliverance, Eden, NC. As the mother of the church she loved to sing, shout and praise the Lord. When she was unable to attend church, she would listen to gospel CD’s at home to keep her spirit lifted. She worked at Morehead Mills, Douglas School as a janitor and was also a housekeeper at Mar Gre Motel. She loved cooking and she was great at it. You could always smell food when you stepped in the front door. Her good heart and her humbleness was always seen by her family. She loved hats and you wouldn’t see her in church without one on. As the mother of the church she was a prayer warrior, praying with you & for you in time of need. Everyone who knew her knew that she had a beautiful spirit of love.
Dorothy was married to the late Gillie Stephen Broadnax and to their union six children were born. She was also preceded in death by her brothers; Henry C. Hairston and Bobby Hairston, sister; Mary W. Johnson, daughter; Charlotte Shuff, grandsons; Reginal J. Broadnax and Micheal Shuff, granddaughter; Patrina Strong and great granddaughter; Miracle Blackstock.
She leaves to mourn her loss: five children; Marjorie Scales (Authur), Stephen Lee Broadnax, Dale Aiken (Darrell), Cynthia Carter (Joseph) and Mena Broadnax. Seven grandchildren; Daryl, Cameron, Shanta, Chelsea, Marcia, Makia and Tyshawn, 10 great grandchildren; Dequan, Shanequo, Aguay, Heavenly, Ohagi, Leeandre, Tylick, Jabri, Quinton and Jaiceon. One great great grandchild; Cayden. She also leaves two special friends; Bobby Garland and Judy Hairston and a host of other friends. Dorothy was the last surviving family member on both side of her family, she will be truly missed.
A Private Service was held.
