Elder James “Ricky” Hatcher, 64, of Stoneville, NC died August 3, 2020. Public Viewing will be held Friday from 1:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Perry Spencer Funeral Home Chapel, Madison, NC.

Elder Hatcher known as “Ricky”, transitioned to his heavenly home on Monday, August 3, 2020 at Wake Forest Baptist Cancer Center, Winston Salem, NC. James was born on May 12, 1956 to the late James W. Hatcher and Virginia Estelle King Hatcher in Stuart, VA. He was the first born on 12 children. He graduated from Patrick County High School in 1976. Upon graduating, he pursued a career in selling life insurance. In 1980, James joined the United States Army where he served for 4 years. After serving in the U. S. Army, he was employed for Roy Stone Trucking Company, Martinsville, VA. James was also an instructor at MTA Trucking School, Greensboro, NC. In 1984 James entered the United States Army Reserves in Galax, VA where he served 9 ½ years in 424 transportation departments. During the reserves, he worked at Coby Cooper in Madison, NC. While working for Coby Copper, James was ordered to active duty in support of Operation Desert Storm. James was honorably discharged in 1993 from the U. S. Army Reserves as a Sergeant. He continued selling life insurance for numerous life insurance companies including Primerica Life Insurance. He accepted his calling to the ministry and rendered his initial sermon at Zion Hill Holiness church on June 9, 1996 and was ordained as an Elder on December 21, 1997 by Pastor Iris Simmons. He presided as Elder of Samaria Holiness Church, Stuart, VA for many years. James completed his educational journey on December 16, 1996 when he graduated from Patrick County Community College with his majors in General Business, Business Administration, and Associate in Arts & Science Degree and Management Associate in Arts & Science. In addition to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Hatcher, he was also preceded in death by his brother, David Hatcher, nephews, Walter Nowlin, Dermaine Smith, Rodney Kellam and grandparents, James V. Hatcher (Lillie Mae Travis), Richard King (Margaret Ida Simmons). James leaves to cherish his legacy: son; Derrick Carter (Frances) of Asheboro, NC, daughter; Amanda Hairston (Victor) of Ruffin, NC, eight grandchildren; Iesha Scales (Anthony) of the home, Darrell Scales (Breana) of Eden, NC, Jacob Scales of Ruffin, NC, Derianna Carter, Nadia Carter, Rayshan Hoskie, Brianna Hoskie and Nyasia Hoskie all of Asheboro, NC. Six brothers and four sisters; Virginia Joyce (Billy), Roger Hatcher, Jeffery Hatcher all of Eden, NC, Linda Thomas (Danny), Timothy Hatcher both of Martinsville, VA, Paul Hatcher (Stephanie), Margaret Hatcher, Robert Russell Hatcher all of Stuart, VA, Rose Ann Hatcher and Johnny T. Hatcher both of Stokesdale, NC, four aunts; Norma Valentine of Ararat, VA, Bernice Rawley of Detroit, MI, Rose Ann Hargrave of Mount Airy, NC, Juanita Smith of Martinsville, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a special family friend; Lazarus Phillips.
