George McDonald “Donnie Boy” Martin, 72 of Eden, NC passed Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Public viewing will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Eden, NC. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Perry Spencer Funeral Home Chapel, Eden, NC with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p. m.
George McDonald “Donnie Boy” Martinof Eden, NC departed this life peacefully on December 20, 2023 at Novant Health Center, Winston-Salem, NC. He was born on June 23, 1951 to the late Annie Daye Wilkerson Blackstock and the late Samuel Maxcell Martin.
George attended Morehead High School Eden, NC and graduated in 1970. After graduation, Donnie and Carl Millner joined the Navy on the Buddy Plan. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in October 1972. During his time in the Navy, Donnie, he was awarded “The National Defense Service Medal.” Donnie later moved to the DC and Connecticut areas and returned to North Carolina in later years where he had his own Janitorial Service –where he provided services to the YMCA, Roanoke, VA, and Wachovia Bank in Winston-Salem until he became disabled. Even this did not keep him down. He moved back to Eden to live with his sister.
Donnie was a loving son to his parents, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, protector and friend. He loved to have fun, spending time with family, cooking, fishing and “rapping”. He was One in a Million. Donnie was a sharp dresser and very articulate. In his early years he worked at Mize Motors in Eden, NC and knew how to maintain and repair cars to give them that special shine. He was called the Glue that connected his family together and always wanted to have those families get togethers.
Donnie, as he was always called, was also preceded in death by brothers; Ricky Lee Martin and Howard Jerome Martin and sisters; Annie Martin Dejournette and Hazel Turome Martin.
He leaves to cherish his memories his Loving “Sweetheart” of fifteen years, Pamela Martin, two sons; Donnie Lamont Martin and Jayson R. Martin. One brother; Victor Broadnax (Tinelle), of Eden, NC. Sisters; Minister Marcella Dickerson and Vickie Patterson (Walter), Eden, NC, Hilda Smith, Greensboro, NC and Sophia Dianne Moyer, Charlotte, NC. One Aunt; Marjorie Martin Moyer, Eden, NC and a host of loving nieces, nephews, godchildren, god- grandchildren, and cousins and friends.
