Georgia Ann Smith (a.k.a. Georgianna), 90, of Axton, VA passed Monday, December 5, 2022. Public viewing will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home, Eden, NC. The family will receive friends, Sunday, December 11, 2022, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Eden, NC. Internment will follow at Saint John Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Axton, VA.
Ms. Georgia Ann Smith, 90, of Axton, VA, gained her heavenly wings on December 5, 2022 at Sovant Health Hospital in Danville, VA. Ms. Georgia was born on April 17, 1952 to the late Matilda H. Wilson and the late John Lee Perkins. She was raised by her late grandmother, Rosina L. Wade, whom she lovingly referred to as, “Mama”.
She attended the former Douglass High School of Eden, Nc and was a member of the graduating class of 1951. She later went on to become a long-standing employee of Fieldcrest Cannon.
Her hobbies included cooking and baking and she became well-known for her buttermilk pies and blackberry wine cakes. She was also famous for her home remedies and her motherly love that was shown to a multitude of people. She joined St John Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and later served as the church clerk for several years.
In addition to her parents and step-parents (Percy Wilson and Tonsie Perkins), she is preceded in death by her youngest son, Thomas “Doug”Smith”, one brother, affectionately called “Junior”; and four sisters, Nannie Broadnax, Nellie Taylor, Hazel Manlove and Rose Perkins.
Ms Georgia also affectionately known as, “Georgianna”, leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, Cecil (Joan) Smith, Sr. Of Yorktown, VA and Anthony Smith of Axton, VA; one daughter, Janice S. (Jerry) Bailey of Reidsville, NC; two granddaughters, Tanya Smith and Jalisa Smith; four grandsons, Cecil (Nyla) Smith, Jr., Anthony Smith, Rodrick Smith and Franklin (Chascydy) Smith; nine great-grandchildren, five sisters, Marlene Aiken, Gladiola Hairston, Patsy (Morris) Morehead, Reecia Witcher and Stormy (Roger) Sheff, four brothers, Willard (Sarah) Perkins, Steve (Eva) Perkins, Harris Perkins and George Perkins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and several self-proclaimed children.
