Mr. Gerald Lee Lewis, 57, of Eden, NC, died May 12, 2019. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2019 at Little Bethlehem Christian Church in Eden, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
Gerald Lee Lewis, son of Jerline McCollum Lewis and the late Curtis Lee Lewis, Sr., was born December 24, 1961. He transitioned from his life on May 12, 2019 at Hospice of Rockingham County. Gerald was baptized at Little Bethlehem Christian Church. Gerald was known as “Goat” AKA “D.D. Lewis” by his family and friends. He graduated from Rockingham Senior High School in 1979. He played football as a tail back. Gerald loved sports, his favorite football team was the Washington Redskins and his basketball team was the North Carolina Tarheels. He also enjoyed bowling, softball and golf. He worked at Stoneville Furniture as a machine operator, later worked for Lowe’s as a delivery driver, Freeman Engineer Assistant blue printer, Harris Teeter Distribution Center, Unifi Inc. for 9 years as an operator in the dye house, Southern Finishing as a sprayer for 10 years where his nickname was “Biscuit” and last Hennings for 14 ½ years, until he became disable. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Collins, brothers, James T. Lewis, Glenn E. Lewis and Mark A. Lewis. He leaves to cherish his memories: mother; Jerline M. Lewis of Eden, NC, daughters; Shonta Lewis (Kenny) of Madison, NC, Shannon Lewis (Lamount) of Siler City, NC four sisters; Vanessa Lewis, Marjorie Blackwell (Gary), Derenda Robinson (Nathan) all of Eden, NC, Sylvia Betz of Waldorf, MD, three brothers; Curtis Lee Lewis, Jr. of Pulaski, VA, Jerome Lewis (Mark) of Cathedral City, CA, Christopher Lewis (Shimonda) of Eden, NC, sister-in-law; Nancy Lewis, three aunts; Shirley McCollum of Eden, NC, Margaret Lewis, Marjorie Dow (Bill) both of Washington, DC, five grandchildren; McKina Moyer, Mckyah Moyer, Kevonate Cummings all of Madison, NC, Lyric Lewis and Loyal Bowden both of Siler City, NC, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
To the Lewis Family,the Meadows Family(Sam,Lynn,Karo,Everett) are thinking of you as you celebrate the life of Gerald. Growing up in Piney Fork and playing sports with Gerald was a treat.Gerald was an incredible athlete on the field and a great person that you could always count on as a friend. Rest in Peace.

My sincerest condolences to the Lewis family. I met Gerald in 1984, at ballpark where he was playing, and my life was blessed with his friendship. We lost touch the last few years but I'll never loose his memory and the smile he would always have. Sorry that he went way too soon.
