Jeff exchanged his earthly life for his eternal life, late Saturday afternoon, December 12, 2020 at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston Salem, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Louvenia and Allen Samuel (Happy Pappy) Scales Sr. Jeff was born on August 18, 1949 in Rockingham County and attended Stoneville High School in Stoneville, North Carolina. Jeff worked in Martinsville Va. at Tultex until the plant closed and he was then employed at Gildan in Eden, North Carolina until his retirement. He was a very hard worker. He enjoyed his job and formed a special friendship with many of his co-workers, especially the younger generation, that he thought needed his guidance and advice. Jeff was always willing to help others. With the passing of his parents at a very young age, Jeff was raised by his Sister Lucille Scales, along with the help of his other siblings. He was a very “Special Uncle” to four generations of nieces and nephews, whom he loved unconditionally. Whenever one was sick or low in spirits, he was there to cheer them up. He would jump around playing and telling jokes until everyone was feeling better and laughing again. From niece/nephew to great niece/nephew, Jeff was labeled the “family driving instructor”,because he took the time, and had the nerve to teach them to drive, if they needed him too. To the small kids of the family, he was the candy/ money uncle; if he didn’t have candy, he would give them money to buy some. To the older kids, he would teach them the facts of life in his own funny way. When they would ask “Uncle Jeff” for advice when they were in a stressful situation, he would instruct them to say “the 23rd Psalms” and everything will be alright. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death are two sisters, Lucille Scales, Elsie Young; two brothers, Allen (Bokey)Scales Jr., William Fisher Scales; a very special sister/niece, Mary S. Settle and three nephews, Michael Ben Scales Sr, Lonzie Scales and Gerald Scales.
Jeff leaves to cherish his loving memories: one son, Anthony DeShawn Cardwell, Eden, NC; A very special daughter/niece; Tracy Scales Tuggle (Ray), Madison, NC; two sister/nieces, Margaret S. Webster, and Vernette S. Dalton (Calvin), both of Eden, NC; two granddaughters; Ms. Jada Cardwell, Charlotte, NC, Ms. Peaches Cardwell, Mayodan, NC; two special grand children; Ryan and Dakota Tuggle, Madison, NC; three nephews; Travis Scales (Patricia), Stoneville, NC; Kim Scales and Steven Scales, both of Greensboro, NC, other special nieces/nephews; LaNiya Bowe, Ella, Daryl (Pookie) and Breona Hairston, Yvonne (Timmy), Dominic, Rayne, Miealeah, Jahkae, Keyra Johnson, a host of other special nieces/nephews and other relatives.
