On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, our beloved Matriarch, Ms. Jennie Hairston transitioned to her eternal home surrounded by her loving family. A true definition of a loving mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend to all who knew her. She was born on August 6, 1933, in Stokes County to the late Burley Hairston, Sr., and Lisora Welch Hairston.
Jennie spent her early years in Detroit, Michigan before returning to North Carolina to be with her family, whom she adored. She worked as a caretaker, spending many of those years caring for the Marshalls of Walnut Cove, NC. Jennie was a faithful member of New London Progressive Primitive Baptist Church and enjoyed being in the house of the Lord when she could attend. She had a servant’s heart, always ready to help, give, and do for others and did it with a beautiful smile. Her ability to guide others with love and care reflected her dedication to those she held close to her heart.
Jennie was a woman of elegance, strength, and compassion. She was a beacon of light, a helper to all, and the foundation of her family. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her kindness, tenacity, and the unwavering love she gave to so many.
She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Elenora Hairston; two children, Kenny Haliburton Sr (Lisa) and Janie Haliburton; four sisters, Dorothy Mae Hairston, Alma Mitchell, Shirley Hairston, and Paige Duncan (Kenny).
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: one devoted and dedicated daughter, Joyce Haliburton of Winston Salem, NC; two sons, Dewayne Haliburton (Elmira) of Loganville, GA; Marc Haliburton of Winston Salem, NC; one sister; Phyllis Sapp (Sam) of Walnut Cove, NC; three brothers, William Hairston (Earlene) of Winston Salem, NC; Joe Hairston (Peggy), Burley Hairston, Jr. (Brenda) of Walnut Cove, NC; 9 grandchildren: De’Andre Haliburton, Gary Patterson, Shannon Haliburton (Valeria), Kenny Jones (Jodie), Sorrell Haliburton (Alicia), Eboni Haliburton Taylor, Setyra Haliburton Woods, Kristen Moore, and Desmond Sparks; 21 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
