John Jeffery, 88 of Eden, NC passed Monday, June 1, 2026. No formal service is planned at this time.
John Evertette Jeffery Sr., affectionately known as Dad, Papa, 38, Johnnie B, Jeff, and Daddy J. departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to family. Born on March 3, 1938, to the late Isaac and Beatrice Jeffery, John lived a remarkable life marked by purpose, hard work, and a deep compassion for others.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 39 years, Agatha "Gaye" Jeffery; his children, Kenion, Sr., Celina, Selina (Sharan), Catherine (Cat), Talva, Debra (David), Kimberly (Michael Sr.), and Joseph (Laura).
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Tommy and Morris; his sisters, Margaret and Hattie; his sons, John Jr. and Steafron; his daughter, Shirley; and his beloved grandson, Devan.
He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Elise, Vincent, Joshua (Nicole), Marqua, Brooke, and Michael Wilson Jr., along with his great-grandchildren: Carmen, Chan’nel, Ariel, India, Jalen, Steaforn III, Kayden, Kole, Korrine, and numerous other extended family members and friends whose lives were forever enriched by his presence.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1959 to 1972, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. As an Airborne Infantryman with the 82nd Airborne Division, he served honorably during the Vietnam War, was stationed in Vietnam, Germany, and at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His distinguished military service earned him numerous honors and commendations, reflecting his courage, leadership, and dedication to his fellow soldiers and his country.
Following his military service, John was recruited by Fieldcrest Cannon and relocated to Eden, North Carolina. He dedicated many years of service to the company and continued through its transition to Mohawk Industries, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 2009. Even after retirement, John remained active, working part-time for Gildan and Walmart.
John shared 39 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Agatha "Gaye" Jeffery. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and open doors for family and friends alike.
To know John was to love him. He never met a stranger and possessed a rare gift for making everyone feel welcome. He was a mentor, confidant, father figure, and friend to many. Whether offering advice, lending a helping hand, or sharing a laugh, John made a lasting impact wherever he went.
His family affectionately nicknamed him "The Ninja." Somehow, John always seemed to know what was happening before anyone else. He could appear just when he was needed, disappear without a trace, and keep a secret better than anyone. His wisdom, intuition, and uncanny ability to stay one step ahead became legendary among those who loved him.
John's life was defined by service—to his country, his family, and his community. His strength, kindness, humor, and generosity will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the family he loved so dearly.
His memory will forever remain in our hearts.
Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed, and held so dear.
~We Love You from your Wife and kids~
