Obituary For Margaret (Ann) C. Martin
Margaret Ann Martin, 88 of Stoneville, NC passed Friday, July 24, 2026.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Mary D. Perry Memorial Chapel of Perry-Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service from 1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Hairston’s Family Cemetery, 174 Shady Grove Rd. Eden, NC.
Public viewing will be held Tuesday August 4, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home 402 Short Avenue, Madison, NC.

Margaret (Ann) C. Martin, affectionately known to her family as “Ann”; Aunt Ann; Auntie, was born to the late Walter Scott “Pete” Carter and Mary Belle Dalton Carter on June 15, 1938. She peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on Friday, July 24, 2026 at her home in Stoneville, NC.
Ann graduated from the former Charles Drew High School before receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Winston Salem State Teacher's College (now Winston Salem State University). An educator for 33 years Ann found joy in helping children learn and grow as an elementary school teacher. She began her career in Lynchburg, VA. teaching third grade with Amherst County Schools. After two years, she joined the staff at the former Stone Elementary in Rockingham county where for four years she taught sixth grade. She retired from Rockingham County Schools after 27 years as a fifth and sixth grade teacher at Stoneville Elementary. Ann touched the lives of countless students throughtout her career. Her dedication to education left a lasting impact on her students, colleagues and community.
After retirement, Ann spent most spring and summer afternoons gardening, tending to the flowersw surrounding her home. She loved reading, solving Sudoku and crossword puzzles and playing her electronic Wheel of Fortune game. An avid fan of the UNC Tar Heels and Washington Commanders, she also enjoyed watching football and basketball games in her free time.
Her faith was an important part of her life. Althugh she was not a church member, she greatly enjoyed attending worship services and finding fellowship with in the church community at Evangelical Saints Church in Eden, NC until her health declined.
Ann was married to the late Joe Louis Martin, Sr. for 60 years and from this union two children was born. Two brothers, Raymond (Rank) Dalton and James (Dub) Carter, two sisters; Myness Carter and Dorothy Moore, and a nephew/son; Kevin Moore preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons; Joe Louis Martin, Jr. (Junae) and Michael Glenn Martin. Grandson; Jared Martin, granddaughter; Jamir Scales. Brother; Aaron Dalton, sister; Ruby Martin, niece/sister; Letricia McCullough, nephew/son; Arthur (Eddie) Moore, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
