Margaret S. Willis was born August 16, 1923, in Davy, West Virginia to Anderson Settle and Minnie Vinson Settle. On October 16, 2022, at the age of 99, she departed this life peacefully at Cone Health Annie Penn Hospital, Reidsville, NC.
Margaret spent her formative years in Davy, WVA, where she graduated from Kimball High School and then later met and married J.D. Willis, Sr. After starting a family, she moved to Madison, NC. There, she worked as a domestic prior to entering the textile industry. Following her retirement, she worked part-time as a Site Director with the Rockingham County council of Aging, until she attained the ripe age of 80.
Margaret loved to cook and entertain family and friends. She was also welcoming and always willing to lend a helping hand. She enjoyed community service and social activities as a member of the Modernistic Club of Madison for many years.
Her great love was the church. There, her passion for cooking and for serving others brought her to church kitchens from St. Stephens United Methodist Church to Goodwill Baptist Church and in her later years, Grace Fellowship Church in Winston-Salem, NC. It was her love of God that sustained her throughout her life, especially during the pandemic and into her final days.
Margaret was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Lee Settle and her youngest son, Raymond Anderson "Winky" Willis. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her sister, Alma Jean King of Riverview, Michigan; four children, J. D. Willis (Marie) of Laurinburg, NC; Donison Lee Willis (Gwen) of Greensboro, NC, Ernest Ray Willis (Mona) of Jamestown, NC and Cheryl Willis Robinson (Tyrone) of Franklinton, NC; six grandchildren, Tameka Willis, Vachelle Willis, Cheavonne Willis, Byron Willis, Jullian Willis Smith (Carnell, Kelly Robinson and Timothy Robinson; two great-grandchildren, JaNiya Fuller and Jeremiah Robinson; special friend, Bertie Brown, who was like a daughter to her; and a host of nieces, nephews and otheer loved ones.
What a blessing to have had Margtaret here on earth for 99 years. She will be sorely missed.

May God give you the strength to persevere at the most challenging time. She is now in total peace in the arms of her heavenly Father.
I just learned of the passing of Margaret. We worked together for about 10 years and during that time, she was my dear friend. We laughed so much and enjoyed our work. She brought me ham biscuits and many treats from her kitchen. I thank God for Margaret and the joy she brought to my life. Prayers for all the family during this time.
Deepest sympathy for Mother Willis family. I thank God for the times we had. She will certainly be missed

Margaret was a very special lady. Her son, Winky, was a classmate and friend of my husband and I. He played with our 2 oldest boys and left a positive impression on them. Of course, I originally knew Margaret through Winky, but later we became friends through our love of God and family and using our hands to create things. Have many fond memories of our conversations and the wisdom of life and child rearing she shared with me. She had a beautiful smile, a twinkle in her eye, and such kind words. She was classy and had a little sass about her too. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. May you find peace in knowing she is free of life's bonds and strolling those "streets of gold".

Heaven has welcomed home one of Western Rockingham County's most seasoned citizens at the age of 99. Ms. Margaret was a "special" member of so many families in our community, by blood or by love. In the Kellam family, it was by love. So many stories, so many trips and adventures, so many meals, so many laughs...and we could go on and on with our "so manies." The impact of Ms. Margaret's love and life will forever be cherished. JD, Don, Ray and Cheryl & family, please know we join you in your mourning and your rejoicing. Doris Kellam & Family
