Marie S. Webster, 82, of Madison, died December 14, 2020. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2020. The family will have a private service. LIVESTREAM WILL BE AVAILABLE Monday, December 21, 2020 at 2 pm.
Early on Monday, December 14, 2020, Marie Scales Webster made her final 911 call, just after celebrating her 82nd birthday on December 12, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Nellie and Dennis Scales of Madison, NC. At an early age, Marie joined the Goodwill Baptist Church, where she served in the Choir, Usher Board, and Nursing Ministries until her health declined. She worked for Burlington and Unifi Textile industries for more than 40 years. Later, she worked as a private care giver for 15 years, and for the Winston-Salem Urban League Senior Services program for the past two years. Marie was best known for her classy dress and style, with her “red lipstick” and infectious smile, and love of people and life. She loved beautiful flowers, and often told her children to be sure to order from the Madison Flower Shop, from which she shopped many years.
On Christmas Eve, in 1953, Marie married John R. Webster, and to this union, five children were born. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, John (Botchie) Webster; great-grandson, Dequan Welch; two sisters, Peggy Brim and Maydell Oliver, and three brothers, Junior Scales, Leroy Scales, and Walter Oliver.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory three daughters, Berna Dean Cox of Stafford, VA, Tonya Johnson of Alexandria, VA, Michelle Adams of Beltsville, MD, God-daughter, Gloria Hairston of Walnut Cove, NC and one son, Michael of the home; nine sisters, Mildred Brown and Robin Hatcher of Madison, NC, Gladys Herbin, Nellie (Mainen) Herbin of Reidsville, NC, Dorothy Wilson (Mike) of Greensboro, NC, Pinkey Lathrop(Sweetie) of Stoneville, NC, Ann Young of Atlanta, GA, Sharon Oliver of Columbus, OH, Linda Oliver-Walden (Bud) of High Point, NC, eight brothers, James Scales, William Scales, Dennis Martin, Billy Oliver, John Malloy all of Madison, NC, George Thomas (Ollie) of Siler City, NC, David Oliver (Debbie) of NY, Ray Oliver of Martinsville, VA, four granddaughters, Jessica Foster and Courtney Webster of Beltsville, MD, Jasmine Wilcox of Lorton, VA, Whitney Webster of Greensboro, NC, two God- granddaughters, Mia Cox of Fredericksburg, VA, Brittany Hairston of Walnut Cove, NC, four grandsons, Stacey Webster of Charlotte, NC, Deonte’ Cox, Darren Cox of Stafford, VA, Jermaine Wilcox of Alexandria, VA, seven great-grandsons, five great granddaughters, a host of nieces, nephews, special nieces, Dorothy Martin, Melissa Dunlap of Madison, NC, special friends, Rosetta Green, Arbadella Campbell and Joanne Johnson of Madison, NC.
