Martha Ann Mitchell was born to the late Robert Lewis and Martha Alice Mitchell on February 19, 1956. She graduated from South Stokes High School in Walnut Cove, NC and went on to attend classes at Winston-Salem State University where she would meet her good friend James Davis.
She was a very intelligent woman that wore many hats throughout her life. Not only was she a caregiver for her mother and her children for many years, but at times she helped people with legal matters. However, her pride and joy was the home health agency she would later oversee in her final years, Warm Hearts Home Health. In this role, she was able to provide the care and compassion needed to strangers she’d never met in any other circumstance.
Waiting to welcome Martha to her heavenly home were her parents Robert and Alice Mitchell; sisters Nancy, Alice Virginia “Sis”, and Dorothy “Dot”; brothers Harvey, Mason, Joseph, Charles, Howard, Ray, and John; her son-in-law Carson Wright, Jr; a special person in an earlier time of her life, David King; and a host of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories are her children Amanda “Jean” Wright, Robert (Michele) Gibson, and Monica Mitchell; her step-son Barry Gibson; grandchildren Carson Wright, III, Cassandra Wright, Destiny Napper, and Mykhia Gibson; brother Herman, a special person in the final years of her life, Ronald Joynes; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

It was wonderful to see all the kind thoughts and best wishes to the family. My little sister and I enjoyed our time with our families, learning the loving message our mom and dad showed each other and the magical way mom made each of us know that we were special. I of course thought mom loved me the most, but the reality was I believe all of us had the same impression. I knew love was part of the Mitchell family. I had wanted to make the trip home for the last visit with my sister, however my situation does not allow me to travel that far after a stroke several years ago. My heart and prayers are with Martha Ann, and the rest of her family, and I believe they know that I am available to them all the time. I truly have missed my Pine Hall family, my best to all of you. Herman R. Mitchell

To the family of our beloved Martha Mitchell, It is with deep sadness that we, the members of the Travis & Nancy Hairston Descendants Group, express our condolences to your family. When one of us suffers we all feel it. Although many of us cannot attend Martha's homegoing celebration to express our sympathy and to exchange hugs in person, pleas know that we send our love and prayers. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is everywhere, especially in times of sorrow; and we pray that soon the heaviness of your loss is replaced with the comfort of knowing that Martha is no longer suffering. Yours In Christ's Love, Dr. Iris H. Cooley, cousin, for The Travis & Nancy Hairston Descendants' Group
