Minister Lawrence Allen Broadnax, Sr. 72 of Reidsville, NC passed Wednesday, December 13, 2023. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 19, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home Chapel Eden, NC with the funeral service beginning at 12 Noon. Interment will follow in Hairston’s Cemetery, Eden, NC.
Minister Lawrence Allen Broadnax, Sr. was born May 12, 1951 in Rockingham County in the little house his parents built in Wentworth, NC. His father, the late John Matthew (John Cobtown) Broadnax and mother, the late Essie Bennett Broadnax.
He attended Lincoln Elementary School, Booker T. Washington High School and Wentworth High School. Lawrence was an avid rabbit hunter, he and his many family and friends traveled to different areas in Rockingham County for the purpose. One of his well-known sayings when he realized a dog did not hunt well was, “That dog don’t hunt.” Lawrence along with his cousin Duel and his brother Daniel opened Broadnax Garage in 1985. It was the place to meet for all the fellers on Folks Hill and Piney Fork, like the old country story with the pot belly stove.
He was also employed at Karstan Mohawk Industries, Eden, NC and The Quantum Group, Inc in Colfax, NC. Lawrence gave his life to the Lord in 1981, under the leadership of Charles Wilson, at Little Bethelhem Christian Church, Eden, NC. He was filled with the Holy Spirit in 1995 and shortly afterwards the Lord called Lawrence into the ministry. He and wife, Cassandra started New Commandment Ministries in 2000 from their home and in 2007, moved the ministry to Eden (Draper), NC.
He often preached short simple messages that were filled with meaning, and he led us in powerful prayers. After he would preach, one of the members, Mary Turner would often say, “Mighty, Mighty Lawrence”. Lawrence left us on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 with the love of his life, Cassandra Lane Broadnax by his side.
He was also preceded in death by his son, infant Matthew Allen, brother, Daniel and sisters, Peggy Brim and Mary Scales.
He leaves behind: his loving wife; Cassandra Broadnax, son; Lawrence Allen, Jr., daughter; Sandy Okeakpu (Bernard), sister; Martha G. Hairston, grandson; David, granddaughters; Simone, Adara, Abigail and Elizabeth. Special family; Reka Hall, Clint Broadnax and Sonja, along with other relatives and friends.
