Obituary For Nathaniel "Nate" Johnson, Jr.
Nathaniel “Nate” Johnson, Jr. 83 of Madison, NC passed Tuesday, September 3, 2025. Public viewing will be held Monday, September 8, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, 402 Short Ave., Madison, NC. At other times, the family will receive guest at their residence from 11:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Goodwill Baptist Church, 1036 K Fork Road, Madison, NC with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Nathaniel “Nate” Johnson, Jr. was born on March 20, 1942 in Stokes County, NC to the late Rev. Nathaniel Johnson, Sr. and Ruth Simmons Johnson. He departed this life on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Nate was a devoted member of Goodwill Baptist Church. He retired from Unifi Industries after more than 30 years of dedicated service. A God-fearing man with a humble and gentle soul, Nate showed love to everyone he met. He was a giver at heart, leading with compassion and living life with quiet strength, loyalty and deep dedication. He wore many hats with grace and patience and even in his final days his faith never wavered. Despite his pain, he continued to greet others with a smile, often saying “Hey there, sugar” or “Hey sweetheart.”
Though his passing leaves us with sorrow, it is his unwavering faith in the Lord that gives us peace, knowing he was ready - even if we were not.
Nate found joy in his garden, always making sure it was well cared for. Even in his last days, he asked for updates, but his brother Mike had already checked on it and would faithfully report back. Nate also had a love for sports, especially fishing with his brothers and playing golf every Monday and Friday. To his family, he was truly our Tiger Woods.
He was preceded in death by his son, James N. Johnson, three sisters, Minnie J. Scales, Maxine J. Manns and Roberta J. Mitchell and two brothers, Roy Lee Johnson, Sr. and Johnny L. Johnson.
Nate leaves to cherish his memory is loving wife, Patricia M. Johnson of the home, four daughters, Natalie (Tyrone) Moore, Della R. Johnson, Sherry (Mark) Davis and Donna (William) Cummings, all of Madison, NC; two special children, Tracy Adams and Vonda Adams; ten grandchildren, Marquita (Derrick) Johnson, Jerrell (Irene) Frazier, Damian (Rachel) Hairston, Scherria Hairston, Damario Johnson, Britton Johnson, Tierra Davis, Sierra Davis, Ikea Johnson and Keyshoun Johnson; fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia (William) Bines and Vickie (Bryant) Jones; three brothers; Michael (Karen) Johnson, Tommy Lee (Shirley) Johnson and Charlie (Mary) Johnson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
