Obituary For Norma Jean Lowe
Ms. Norma Jean Lowe, 80 of Stoneville, NC passed Saturday, September 27, 2025. The family will receive friends, Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church, 105 Wall Street, Madison, NC. The “Celebration of Life” will begin at 12 Noon with the interment to follow at Collins Cemetery, Madison, NC.
Public viewing will be held Friday, October 3, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, 402 Short Avenue, Madison, NC.
Norma Jean Lowe, 80, transitioned to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Norma Jean was born on January 17, 1945 in Madison, NC to John Robert Lowe, Sr. and Bertha Rosetta Broadnax Lowe. Nicknamed by her grandmother, “Chocolate Milk” was the oldest of 6 siblings. A lifelong resident of Rockingham County, Norma attended Charles Drew School (Madison Colored School). She was a committed employee in the local textile industry for over 3 decades with MacField/Unifi Inc. and Frontier Spinning. Upon retirement, Norma moved to Stoneville, NC where she could be found spending time with her children and grandchildren, loving on her dogs, Herschel and Ginger, watching old westerns and soap operas and cheering on her favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Norma was a lifelong member of Beulah Baptist Church. She attended faithfully until her mobility became limited. She was a devout Christ-follower and demonstrated her faith and grace with those she came in contact with. Norma was known for her humility and perseverance, having endured severe impoverished conditions throughout her life. Her pride and joy were her 9 children. As a single mother, she demonstrated a sacrificial love for her kids. She worked extra jobs to ensure her kids were provided for. She often told funny stories of her memories growing up with her siblings and raising her kids. Norma Jean's story is that of a matriarch who worked hard to better herself and become a mother figure to many children and adults regardless of familial relationship.
Norma's faith in Jesus Christ was evident until her dying moment and this will forever be her testimony. She was loved, respected and admired by her entire community. she will be missed but remembered fondly for years to come.
She is preceded in death by her father, John Lowe, Sr., her mother, Bertha Lowe, her sons, Lemar Lowe, Craig Lowe and Curtis Lowe (Sherah) and her daughter, Patricia Nicholson.
She leaves behind many loved one to carry on her legacy of love and humility, including her sons, Ray Lowe (Nicole), Ron Lowe, DeJim Lowe (Michelle) and Glen Lowe (Shelley, her daughter, Joanna Lowe, 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, her sisters, Nancy Foye, Gloria McKiver, Lizzora Lowe, her brothers, John Lowe, Jr. and Nathaniel Lowe.

Norma was a great neighbor for the 7 short years my father and I got to know her. She was so excited for me when she found out I was pregnant, and loved my daughter even more when she arrived. I will miss her, and I know my father will too! My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time.
