Ora C. “Josephine” Foye, 82, of Madison, died Tuesday, September 1, 2020. Graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Collins Cemetery, Madison, NC. THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC VIEWING.
Ora Clee Foye, known to family and friends as, “Josephine” was the only child born to Fred and Ora Foye on April 21, 1938 in Madison North Carolina. She graduated from Charles Drew High School in Madison, NC and attended Immanuel Lutheran College in Greensboro for two years. She also completed a course in Flora Management in New Jersey.
Josephine became a faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church, Madison, NC at an early age and a member of the Usher Board until her health began to fail. Jo had a passion for anything Maya Angelo. She had all of her novels and books of poetry. She also loved to travel and had over the years been to Europe as well as traveling extensively nationally. She spent many summers visiting her cousin Katie in California. Her last employment was with Kappie Yates in Greensboro. She and Kappie became travel buddies and friends. Kappie never forgot Jo’s birthday. Threw her a big party on her 70th and always found her and bought cake and ice cream each year on her birthday.
Jo was famous for her pies and cranberry salad at food events. She was well known and loved by her family, neighbors and friends. She cared for and waited on so many of her elderly relatives including her father. During the last years of her life, her friend and sometimes caregiver Arvelia Martin did so much for her. Jo could and did call on her any hour of the day or night! Sister as we call her was always patient and caring of Jo.
She leaves to mourn, many cousins on the Foye and Ziglar sides of the family. She loved her family members and visited and supported all of them over the years. She had a special closeness with her cousins, Nancy Lee (who preceded her in death), Barbara Clarkson and Hazel Broadnax. She is the last Ziglar to regularly attend the Dillard Broadnax reunion over the years.
