Robert departed this earth on January 1, 2020 at UNC-Rockingham Nursing Center in Eden, NC. He was the first son to Robert Ford and Lucille Marie Wilson Giles (whom both preceded him in death) was born September 10, 1939. He was a member at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church where he was an usher until his health declined. He attended Southside High School; even though being a straight “A” student, he quit school in the tenth grade and moved in with his uncle. There he learned the value of working for a living. Throughout his life he was one to work diligently. At times holding down more than one job. He was an employee of Fieldcrest-Cannon Mills and janitor at Irisburg School. He eventually found his “PASSION” being a truck driver. He worked for Roy Stone Trucking Company for several years, then more than 20 years plus he drove for Warren Trucking Company where he retired. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, Frances Scales Galloway, son, Robert Williams and brother, Andrew “Dike” Giles. He leaves to cherish his memory: A special friend and companion, Delores Hairston, one son, Douglas Edward Giles, one daughter-in-law Catherine Williams, two grandchildren: Chad and Tenisha Williams, six great-grandchildren, brother, Joe Meade (Mary) Giles, sister, Devern “Marie” (James) Robertson; stepchildren, Debra Thompson, Constance Smith, Alisha René Johnson, and Dario (Jaclyn) Campbell, step grandchildren: Carletha (Herman) Wilson, Carl Lee (Tanisha) Thompson, Jr, Joseph D. Smith, Jr., Cristy LaFaye Smith, and David K. Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will truly miss him.
