Obituary For Roger Brown, Sr.

Mr. Roger Brown, Sr., 78, died October 30, 2019. Funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m. at New Saint Paul Baptist Church in Eden, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Eden Garden Cemetery,Eden, NC.

Roger was born November 20, 1941, son of the late Joseph and Mary S. Brown. On Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at UNC Rockingham, Eden, NC he was called from labor to rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Hazel E. Brown and Josephine B. Neal and his twin brother, Ronald Brown. Roger graduated from Douglass High School in 1960. He was enlisted from 1960-1964, serving his country in the United States Air Force. Roger was employed by Fieldcrest Mills for several months, prior to working at American Tobacco Company and Brown & Williams until retiring in 1996. He was faithful and dedicated member of the New Saint Paul Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board for more than thirty-five years. Sunday School Superintendent, Adult Men teacher, Male Chorus and Combined Choir and faithfully attended weekly Bible study class, until health began failing. You would often hear him sing, "I am thine O Lord, I have heard thy voice and it told Thy love to me, but long to rise in the arms of faith, and be closer drawn to Thee". Roger also served his community as President of the NAACP, School Board Committee, Planning and Zoning Committee for the City of Eden, President of Big Brothers & Big Sisters, the Centennial Committee of Rockingham County, the Kiwanis Club, member of the Foundation Committee at Morehead Hospital, Co-Chairman of the Democratic Committee and the J. J. Johnson Baptist Camp. He also loved to travel and participate in the Baptist State Convention and the Lott Carey Foreign Missions and he LOVED the Dallas Cowboys. For fifty-two years, Rober was married to Mary Frances Brown, who was faithful and dedicated to him, until death. Roger leaves to forever cherish his memories: a devoted wife; Mary F. Brown of the residence, his son; Roger Brown, Jr., (Braille) of Eden, NC, his daughter; Rodessa Brown of Raleigh, NC, one grandson; the jy of his life; Roger Brown, III (Tre), one uncle; Fred Hairston (Louise) of Roanoke, VA, two aunts; Mrs. Janie Barham of Greensboro, NC, Mrs. Clara Blackstock of Eden, NC, two sisters-in-law; Gwendolyn Brown and Hazel Dillard both of Eden, NC, two brothers-in-law; Robert Scales (Daphne) and William Scales (Sharon) both of Wentworth, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We will not say goodbye, however we must say "See you later" to a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. We thank God for blessing us to share your love and devotion for 77 years.
