Sophia Elizabeth Meadows Teamer, a truly remarkable woman whose life. was a testament to faith, love and family, departed this world on December 2, 2023. One a hot, sunny day on August 25, 1930, the world met Sophia Elizabeth Meadows nicknamed “Peaches”. She was the loving daughter of Lennie Thompson and Jacob Meadows. She grew up in Leaksville and was instilled with strong values of faith and love from a young age.
One can only assume that she came out of the womb talking and eating because outside of her husband, who was the love of her life and her family, those are two primary loves of her life. In fact, she was famous for saying “y'all when I stop eating I am out of here”. True to form, her appetite left her a day or so before God called her home.
Let's talk about the love of her life. The story (as she tells it) is that Mr. Stacks (Amos Teamer, Sr. who is warmly known as “The Chow Chow Man”). Legend says that he saw her going up the step one day and said “I am going to get that woman.” Well he was successful, but he had to jump a few fences to get her. He spoiled her rotten and left her for her kids and grandkids to pick up the slack while he went on to Glory. I was a love story for the ages.
Peaches was a dedicated mother to her five children: Veronica, Amos, Jr., Theresa, Kathyrn and Tracy. She poured her heart and soul into raising them with love and guidance, instilling in them the same values she held dear. And we all knew, she had no problem “putting you in your place.” He children were the center of her universe and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and the individuals they had become. But….if you wanted to find her soft spot…simply look at her grandchildren. Ms. Peaches LOVED those grandchildren…with them, she had the most fun and moreover she could dote over them.
Throughout her life, Peaches, was an active member of Springfield Baptist Church, where she found solace and community in her faith. Her unwavering belief in God served as a source of strength and inspiration for those around her.
We all build our careers in various areas…Peaches built her career on being a Mother. She will tell you that she was an athlete (which she was) and she worked in the mill and the laundry. In high school, she played basketball and has a sincere love for the game….AKA Steph Curry. OH how she loved Steph Curry. In her world, Steph Curry IS the NBA.
Beyond her role as a mother and woman of faith, she was known for her kindness and generosity. She had a heart that radiated love and touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warm smile and comforting presence were a source of comfort to many. Most of all, Ms. Peaches was proud to be from the Black Bottom. Many of her most famous stories are of her family and the Black Bottom. The love she had for her Martin, Meadows and Teamer families was special.
She is predeceased by her parents Lennis Meadows Thompson and Jacob Meadows and husband, Amos Teamer, Sr. and daughter, Theresa Elizabeth Teamer recently deceased in October of 2023.
Peaches is survived by four of her five children, Veronica Ann Clark (Morris Abraham Clark), Eden, NC, Amos Teamer, Jr (Viola Teamer) Eden, NC, Kathyrn Teamer, Eden, NC and Tracy Teamer Hill (Jeffrey Michael Hill) Bentwood, CA, with, her five grandchildren: Lisa Diane Clark , Venicia Lynn Clark (Jaime), Morris Fitzgerald Clark, Shannon Teamer, Jamar Teamer; five great grandchildren, Geran Scales, Audity Scales, Jala McDonald, Nolan Grant; nieces and nephews, Lennie Ann Meadows, Gerol Meadows, Jake Meadows, Jacine Meadows, Karen Meadows, Brenda Johnson (Rodney), Darrell Meadows; a host of Teamer nieces and nephews, a host of Martin and Meadows family members; God-Daughter, Arbedella Campbell, God Son, George Dalton (Josie Dalton), Special Adopted God-Daughter and Amazing Caretaker, Clara Williams; and a host of extended family and friends who will always cherish the memories they created together.
Her passing leaves a void in our lives that cannot be filled, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched. As we say goodbye to Peaches, we remember her as a woman of faith, a loving mother and a beacon of love and kindness. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that her love and legacy will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she leaves behind.
