TRACY, also known as “Sloot,” was born in Eden, NC to the late Charlie, Jr and Peggy Hairston. He departed this life on May 3, 2019 in Winston-Salem, NC. Tracy attended Moorehead High School in Eden, NC, where he was a gifted athlete and a “spirited” student. He then attended Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, NC, earning his bachelor’s degree. While attending WSSU, he began working for UPS, leading to a career of more than 30 years. More than a large man, Tracy was a larger-than-life presence, positively impacting all he encountered. That impact was not limited to friends, but likewise strangers. On several occasions, Tracy earned accolades and acknowledgements for coming to the rescue of those in need: be it a stranger being attacked by an armed assailant or a motorist in need of resuscitation. Without hesitation or regard for self, Tracy’s compassionate and generous nature often led him to extend himself to benefit others. This is reflective not of mere incidents, but the character of the man: if you were in need, he was always present. Tracy was a free spirit that could not be tethered. His sense of adventure led him to travel to numerous countries and territories, learning several languages and rituals of various cultures. That spirit has now soared to the greatest of heights. Tracy has enriched our lives with so much love, support, laughter, and of course, nicknames! His loyalty, responsibility, commitment, and love were generously shared with no expectations. He is a cherished gift, a memory that will never fade. As a dedicated family member and friend, TRACY leaves to cherish his memory: wife Kapiolani “Lynn” Hairston of Winston-Salem, NC; three children, Anthony, Brandhen, and Na’leah; a sister Cherie Lawson of Eden, NC; a devoted brother-in-law Jake Meadows of Eden, NC; one niece, Jakell Meadows of Birmingham, AL; two nephews, Thomas Lawson, III and Tyler Roberts of Eden, NC; and an irreplaceable host of beloved friends and family.

I’m sorry to hear of the passing of your love one Tracy and my sincere condolences are with the Hairston family. Although the passing of Tracy is devastating the greatest comfort is knowing he have the hope of a resurrection. Our Heavenly Father Jehovah arranged for his son Jesus to come and ransom his life so Tracy could have the resurrection hope. This hope is confirmed in the Bible at John 5:28,29 and Acts 24:15. Moreover, our father in heaven Jehovah is aware of the pain you feel for loosing Tracy and expresses to you these words found at Psalms 34:18 “Jehovah is close to the broken hearted; He is near those who are crushed in spirit”. During this time of sorrow James 4:8 offers your family this invitation “Draw close to god and he will draw close to you because he will strengthen and sustain your family.
