Obituary For Deacon Roland Wayne Waden
Deacon Roland Wayne Waden was born December 25, 1954, in High Point, NC. Roland was affectionately known as Deacon Waden, Ro, Ro Wayne, his children jokingly called him “Google”. He was the sixth child out of seven siblings. He was preceded in death by his mother, Willie Brockman Waden and father, Charles Waden Jr.; brothers, Ronald L. Waden, Henry J. Waden, and Charles Waden.
Roland graduated from Lucy Coffin Ragsdale High School in Jamestown NC and went on to pursue continued education at ECPI in computer engineering. Roland also earned the rank of Brown Belt in Taekwondo, reflecting his dedication, discipline, and perseverance. Roland retired after 20 plus years at Thomas Built Buses.
Roland was a born-again believer, called in to the ministry at Stanton Place Church of God of Prophecy under the leadership of Bishop Floyd D. Collins Sr., where served as Deacon, a member of the Male Chorus, and Sunday School teacher. Roland was known for his jokes and fun facts (even if the facts were just his) , stats on all the Football games , and sharing the good news of salvation.
On April 17, 1982, Roland married the love of his life, Vivian Crouch Waden. The two celebrated 44 years of holy matrimony, this union was officiated by Bishop Floyd D. Collins Sr.
Roland’s favorite football team was the Pittsburgh Steelers with loyalty and passion. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether on vacation or fishing trips.
Roland leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Vivian C. Waden; daughter, Monique C. Waden; son, Derrick A. Waden; granddaughters, Nakaya S. Waden, Maloni L. Waden, and Jurnee A. Waden; he is also survived by three siblings: Larry Waden of Tomball Tx, Dr. Carl Waden (Janice) of Durham NC, Minister Avis Waden (Arthur) of Burlington NC; additionally, he leaves behind his uncle: Benjamin Brockman, aunts: Lottie Brockman, Parthenia Brown and Joyce Hairston; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Church of God of Prophecy, 1100 Stanton Place. Interment will follow at Guil-Rand Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Deacon Waden may be viewed on Friday, September 4, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service.

My heart is heavy as I send my deepest condolences for the loss of someone who was more than a friend but more like a brother. Brother Roland always had a way of making people smile and bringing joy wherever he went. During our kids' time at Ragsdale High School, he was my game partner, and he made every game a highlight, not just for me, but for my entire family. Those memories and the laughter we shared are something I will always cherish. He was truly one of a kind, and his presence will be deeply missed by everyone who had the blessing of knowing him. Rest peacefully, my friend and brother. You will never be forgotten. You will truly be missed, but Heaven has gained another beautiful Angel. Praying for comfort, strength, and peace for his family during this difficult time.
