James Walker Burris 83 of High Point, N.C. transitioned from this earthly life on December 31, 2025. “James, or as he was known as “James Walker”, was born on October 16, 1942, in York County, SC to the late James & Marie Gill. He was also preceded in death his daughter, Taneka Burris; two sisters, Dora Lee Thompson, Eunice Ingram; two brothers, Nathaniel Burris, and Robert McClure.
James Walker was a lover of beer and sports. He enjoyed football and baseball. However, he loved golf, hunting, and fishing. He was one of the original members of the “High Point Golf Swingers” golfing club. He would join the other club members on Saturday and Sunday mornings for a round of golf at the local golf courses. He enjoyed watching golf in person or on television as much as he did playing the game. He enjoyed as he would put it a “Cold one” with his meal or while watching golf.
He created the neighborhood hangout spot back in the day called “The Shackhouse!” He met and made a lot of friends through that connection. He was employed with John Mills Tree Service until he retired. He met and married Lucille Cook. From that union came two children, Tony and Taneka.
To cherish his memory is one son, Tony (Tiki) Burris of High Point, two sisters, Ruby Johnson, and Helen Coltrane of High Point. Three grandchildren, Brittany Martin of Baltimore, MD, Tony Burris Jr of High Point, and Rontell Stuckey of Westfield, IN. Three great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Memorial service has been cancelled due to the weather. Service will be held at a later date.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
