Mrs. Kathy J. Ray departed this earthly life on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at WFBH High Point Medical Center. She was born on September 30, 1958, a daughter of the late Mrs. Allene Turner and Mr. Conway Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Mr. Willie Ray, Jr.; three sisters, Cynthia Johnson, Beverly Johnson, and Gloria Johnson; two nieces, Encka Johnson and Adeja Johnson.
Affectionately known as “Kat”, “Kat Mae”, or “Kat-In-The-Hat”, she was a resident of High Point, NC all of her life. She attended T. Wingate Andrews High School. Kathy was a very dedicated employee of Meridian Center and Hilton Inn. Her love of cooking, dancing, and caring for her grandchildren were some of the main joys of her life. She was a dedicated member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where she served on the usher board proudly.
Kathy will be greatly missed and mourned by her daughter, Mrs. Allene Jones (LeAnthony); her sons, Quito L. Johnson and Gregory Ray; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Johnson and Jerri Johnson; brother, Anthony Johnson; her mother-in-law, Evelyn Ray; four sisters-in-law, Beatrice McEachin, Mary Ann Ray, Betty Ray, and Teresa Ray; one brother-in-law, John Ray (Melvise); very special friends, Mr. Charles Smarr and Ms. Patricia Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel from 3:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Mrs. Ray may be viewed on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
