Mrs. Mae Tillman made her transition to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Hospice Home in High Point, NC. Mae was born August 12, 1937 to the late Lee Lowery Sr., and Hannah McFarlin Lowery in Chesterfield, SC. She will be reunited with her children, Gloria Tillman Little, Lelia Tillman McDougle, Marion Thomas Tillman and David Todd London; one granddaughter, Anitra Dumas; four brothers, John R. Lowery, Ruben and Eugene Lowery, Joseph A. Lowery; and one sister, Margie R. Lowery. Mae attended Gary High where she met and married James Edward Tillman. They relocated to High Point, NC where she began her career in the manufacturing industry for 20 years until she retired. She was a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in High Point, NC, where she sang in the Adult Choir and served as an usher for 40 plus years. Mae enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, and spending quality time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed the holidays where family and friends would gather to enjoy her meals, listen and share family stories, and more importantly laugh together. She was the Matriarch of her family, loved dearly by all and will be forever missed and not forgotten for her infectious laugh, quick wittedness, her wisdom and for being our tower of immeasurable strength. She is survived by her son, Edward Tillman of High Point, NC; one daughter, Clara Pickett of Greensboro, NC; four brothers, Lee Lowery Jr, James Lowery, Bernard Lowery, Pastor William Lowery of Greensboro, NC; two sisters, Mary Lowery of Washington, DC, and Maxine Lowery of High Point, NC; eight grandchildren, Cleo Tunnell (Jaz), Brian Tillman (Cynthia), Karmin Tillman, Jamar Tillman, Jennifer Tillman, Jessica Tillman-Lipscomb (Hank), Benjamin London and Justin London; one spiritual granddaughter, Nathalie Coulanges; seventeen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was affectionately known as “Ma” by many and cherished a special relationship with Yolanda McWhorter Jones. Funeral service will be held Monday, November 29, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
