A faithful servant of God completed his earthly journey and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Albert Travis Henderson, Sr. lovingly known as Travis, departed this life at the North Carolina Veterans Home at the age of 76. Born in High Point, NC on April 12, 1950, he was one of six children born to the union of the late Fred Wilson Henderson Sr. and Icie Mae Henderson.
Travis received his education with the Guilford County school system and was a proud graduate of T. Wingate Andrews High School. Demonstrating a heart of dedication and service, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force and later serving faithfully in the United States Army National Guard for a total of 22 years. His life reflected honor, commitment, and sacrifice both in military service and in his personal walk of faith.
Above all else, Travis loved the Lord. A true God-fearing man, he faithfully served as a devoted member of Solid Rock Baptist Church until his health no longer permitted him to do so. He gave of himself wholeheartedly and served in many capacities throughout the church including as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, President of the Youth department, and a member of the Male Choir. Travis believed in serving God not only through words but through action, leadership, and love. His faith was evident in the life he lived and the example he set for those around him.
Travis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene Hubbard Henderson; his parents, Fred Henderson Sr. and Icie Mae Henderson; his grandparents, John Herbert Hayes and Amy Lula Hayes; his uncle, Robert Hayes Sr.; and his brothers, Frank Benjamin Henderson, who passed shortly after birth, and Fred Henderson Jr.
Though our hearts grieve his absence, we rejoice in the beautiful memories he leaves behind. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his daughter, Sonia Renee Henderson; his sons, Albert T. “Stevie” Henderson Jr. and Robert Wayne Henderson; and his bonus son and nephew, Fred Henderson III and wife Ruth Henderson. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren: Kandice Reaves, Bryson Waden, Sa’Nayia Henderson, Shiquan Robinson, and Kaitlyn Fitzgerald, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Travis also leaves to celebrate his life three sisters, Amy Lula (John) Hill of Archdale, Glenda (James) Martin of High Point, NC and Carla Johnson of Winston-Salem, NC; two brothers, Abraham B. Henderson of Detroit, MI and Lacy L. Henderson of High Point, NC; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and dear friends.
To know Travis was to know a man of unwavering faith, quiet strength, service, and love. His life was a testimony of God’s goodness and grace. Though he has entered into his heavenly home, his legacy will continue through the many lives he touched and through the family he loved so deeply.
