Mr. Anthony Barber, 66, fondly known as “Fat Cat” of Salisbury, NC passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Davie Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on June 20, 1956, to the late Fred Wallace Barber, Sr. and Carrie Mae Roberts Barber in Rowan County, NC. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Bertha Roberts, Donetta Bailey Alexander; his brothers, Kevin A. Barber, Timothy L. Barber, and Charles “Peanut” Barber.
He attended North Rowan High School and worked for the Town of Landis, NC until his retirement. “Fat Cat” was always a jokester, he loved a good laugh and spent his leisure time fishing, frying fish was one of his favorites and he enjoyed going to Flea Markets.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his daughter, Tamika Herndon-Ali (Delawn) of Charlotte, NC; son, Antoine “Shaundel” Herndon of Salisbury, NC; grandchildren, Nijee & J.D.; great grandchildren, Shiloh & Zuri; brothers, Tommie “T.R.” Barber of Salisbury, NC; Frankie Barber of Lexington, NC; Fred Barber, Ronald Barber (Gail) both of Salisbury, NC; John “Reggie” Barber of Charlotte, NC; Darrell “Black” Pruitt, Walter “Derrick” Pruitt both of Salisbury, NC; Jerry Greene of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Phyllis Lee of Cheltenham, MD; Kimberly “Shawn” Durant of High Point, NC; Denise “Dee-Dee” Miller of Arizona; special friends, Gordon & Lisa Blackwell, Linda Cowan, Brenda Leonard, Wade Oberlice, Doug Overcash, Mary J. Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, 719 S. Caldwell St., Salisbury, NC. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, 2011 Old Wilkesboro Rd. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
