Obituary For Mr. Bennie Lee Mock, Jr.

Mr. Bennie Lee Mock Jr., affectionately known as "BJ," departed this life on May 22, 2026, while on vacation in Cartagena, Colombia, after a courageous lifelong battle with Sickle Cell Disease. He was 50 years old.

BJ was born on February 23, 1976, to Bennie Lee Mock Sr. and Sharon Dianne Mock in High Point, NC. From the very beginning, he faced challenges that many believed would limit his life. Instead, BJ chose to live with determination, strength, and an unwavering spirit that inspired everyone who knew him.

A proud graduate of High Point Central High School's Class of 1995, BJ went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army from 1995 to 1998. His service reflected the same courage and resilience that defined his entire life.

Despite living with Sickle Cell Disease, BJ refused to allow his condition to define him. He defied the odds by playing football throughout his youth, a sport he loved deeply. Football remained one of his greatest passions throughout his life, and he was a devoted fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His love for the game extended beyond the field as he dedicated countless hours to mentoring and coaching young athletes.

For many summers, BJ volunteered as a Sickle Cell youth counselor, providing encouragement, guidance, and hope to young people facing the same challenges he had overcome. He coached youth football for the High Point Lions and the Triad Ravens in High Point, NC, helping shape the lives of countless young athletes. After relocating to Georgia, he continued his work with youth through mentoring and coaching while building a career in modeling, acting, and traffic control. BJ's impact on the young people he served will be felt for generations to come.

BJ was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bannie Washington and Earl Jeffries, and his paternal grandparents, Gertrude Marshall, Walt Titus Jr., and Awell Blakeney; his cousin, Lavesta Carlos Washington and special uncle Jonathan Washington.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents, Bennie Lee Mock Sr. of Greensboro, NC and Sharon Dianne Mock of High Point, NC; his four daughters, Deshonte McCall, Tekeya Hayes (Dexter), Shataya Mock and India Mack, all of High Point, NC; his two sons, Tedarius Mock and Reasyn Mock of Greensboro, NC; his three sisters, Felecia “Lisa” Singleton and Benevia “Nita” Mock of Atlanta, GA; Velicia “Ann” Hayes of High Point, NC; his honorary brother, Willie Kittrell (Stephanie) of High Point, NC; oldest nephew, Deontaye Mock of High Point, NC (who was more like a little brother than a nephew); three grandsons, Elijah, Kameron, Nasir and two granddaughters, Zoey, Nylah; and a host of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

BJ's life was a testament to perseverance, faith, service, and love. He spent his years uplifting others, mentoring youth, and demonstrating that no obstacle is too great when met with courage and determination. Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched, the young people he inspired, and the family and friends who were blessed to know him.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever missed. Forever on VACATION!

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, June 19, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
