Obituary For Mr. Charles C. Ramseur

Charles Ramseur was born on September 13, 1940 in High Point, NC to the late Otho Ramseur, Sr. and Patsy Ramseur. He grew up in a loving home with siblings: Otho Jr, Mary Elizabeth, Odell, Nancy, Alpha, Omega, Patricia and Andre.

Charles attended historic William Penn High School where he excelled in both academics and athletics. His natural athleticism propelled him to a remarkable career in varsity swimming and football. He won numerus swimming awards in the breaststroke, free-style and medley events; additionally, his football team won the western regional championship. After receiving his high school diploma, he continued his education at Guilford Technical Community College and Davidson County Community College.

Charles’ first job in life started at Alderman Studios in High Point, NC where his love for painting was born. Although he left Alderman Studios to pursue a career in law enforcement his love painting continued throughout his life. This love for painting lead Charles to start Ramseur Paint and Decorating where he has literally painted all over North Carolina and surrounding states for many celebrates, corporations and homeowners. You would often hear him singing gospel hymns as he painted. His paint crew consisted of many painting professionals who took pride in their workmanship to make Ramseur Paint and Decorating one of the premier black-owned businesses in High Point. As an entrepreneur, Charles used his business to support his community and uplifted many within it.

After Alderman, Charles began a career in law enforcement with the High Point Police department. As a Police Officer he dedicated his life to serving and protecting all in the community. During his career, he received numerous awards including Officer of the Year multiple times, volunteer service awards, President’s Award by the Furniture City Chapter of the North State Law Enforcement Association and achieved the rank of Master Officer II. He received the United Way Community Hero Award in 1998. In 2009 he was recognized as an “Ordinary Hero” by the Greensboro News and Record for his work to keep the peace during the 1968 race riots in High Point. He retired from the Police Department on October 2, 1995 as a decorated and treasured member of his community.

Charles had a deeply personal relationship with our Load and Savior Jesus Christ and served him as Senior Sunday School instructor and Leader of the Laymen’s League. He was ordained as a Deacon at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and served his church community in all aspects of their spiritual and personal lives. Charles later moved to Williams Memorial C.M.E. Church where he continued to teach Sunday School and serve the church in multiple capacities. Psalm 91 was his favorite bible verse which he read daily.

While being a Police Officer and business owner were significant accomplishments, his greatest accomplishments were being a loving husband to his wife of 57 years, Bonnie Ramseur, and a father to his daughter, Kimberly Ramseur Cheek. In addition, he mentored many others

After being a faithful servant, the Lord granted Mr. Ramseur his wings on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. Charles leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 57 years, Bonnie Montague Ramseur; his daughter, Kimberly Ramseur Cheek and son-in-law, Ronnie Cheek of Waxhaw, NC; his two grandchildren, Sydney Cheek of Costa Mesa, CA and Bryce Cheek of Salt Lake City, Utah; four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Moore, Odell Crone and Patricia Johnson of High Point, Nancy Stancil of Schenectady, NY; one brother-in-law, Billy Crone of High Point; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A private funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Charles greeted and gifted me with his extraordinary friendship, often candid, when I moved to High Point twenty-two years ago. He loved the Lord, and in turn, the Lord blessed and protected him as he cared for all in the community. Charles was a man's man, because he placed his faith and trust in the Lord. God Bless Charles Ramseur, and the entire Ramseur family. Strib Boynton

My Dearest Cousins, One prayer for you is that the Lord will comfort you and give you that perfect peace that passes all understanding...that he will wrap you in his arms and hold you ever so close. Please know that we love you and will continue to keep you lifted in our prayers.

Hello, Friends:

Rev. Green and I shall always treasure our Sunday meals together with Bonnie and Charles at Spiro's restaurant. We shared many special conversations with Bonnie and Charles. The food was good and the conversation was better. Charles was definitely a High Point Super Hero. Bonnie is definitely a High Point Virtuous Woman. May God continue to Bless and Keep you in His Loving Care! --Rev. Bobby W. Green, Jr. and Dr. Gwendolyn Johnson-Green

I was fortunate to work with Charlie during my first 12 years with High Point PD. He was a leader who gave sound advice on how to deal with the public. He had the respect of the citizens and everyone knew "Ramseur". We were also fortunate to have Charlie attend our monthly Retirees breakfast meetings. He will be missed.

As a young police officer, I had the opportunity to work with Charlie during the last few years of his career at the High Point Police Department. He was an icon at both the police department and in the High Point Community. He had a special trust with the community we policed because he cared about the people and was always fair. When he wasn't imparting his senior Cop wisdom on me, he was always talking about his family, how proud of them he was, and how much he loved them. Charlie will be missed by many. I pray for the family during this difficult time, but know that Charlie lived a good and faithful life by selflessly serving others, and you will see him again.

I worked with Charlie and he was always a pleasure to work with and always had such a positive attitude and a smile on his face. Our prayers will be with his family and he will be greatly missed.

Kim, Mrs Bonnie and family, You have our deepest condolences. We ARE HERE IF YOU EVER NEED US. MAY GOD CONTINUE TO COMFORT YOU. Ronnie & Bill Gist.

Kim and I are very close friends from a young age. I spent many nights in their loving home. I remember Mr. Ramseur coming home in his uniform with such a intimidating exterior posture, but being a gentle giant to those he loved. This was very evident in his relationship with Kim, who could charm him out of anything. Kim, you and Ms.Bonnie were so blessed to have him. Hang on to those memories. Love you! Dana Caudle
