Obituary For Mr. Christopher Carson Ewings

Christopher Carson Ewings, “Duck” as he was affectionately known growing up, was born in High Point, NC to the late Oliver Ewings and Christine Thompson Ewings on February 2, 1954. On Saturday, February 18, 2023, at The Hospice Home of The Piedmont, High Point, NC, Carson made the transition from this earthly home to be with his Lord and Savior.

Carson’s formal education began at Trinity Elementary where he excelled in academics as an honor student and he also excelled in running track. He piqued an interest in playing football as well but his mother refused to allow him to play unless he first mastered playing the piano. So, as fate would have it, in 1967 at the tender age of thirteen, he performed the piece, “Toccatina” by Dmitri Kabalevsky in his first piano recital. He grew to love his piano as much as sports which included basketball and football.

Carson continued to excel in academics and his love for sports grew as he entered Trinity High School. While there, he became an outstanding football and basketball player which resulted in him making Davidson/Randolph 3A All Conference for those two sports. In addition to him being a scholar and an elite athlete, Carson had a perfect attendance record eleven out of twelve years, and that absence was because he had the mumps.

After graduating, he continued his education at Winston Salem State University where he was recognized as one of the best college football players in America. Ultimately, he was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an offensive tackle and later by the Atlanta Falcons. Once his football career ended, Carson joined the Winston Salem Fire Department.

After leaving there, he volunteered his time and energy to helping whenever and wherever he was needed: Saint Mary’s United Methodist Church where he taught the Adult Sunday School, The Neighborhood Café and the United Methodist Men.

Although Carson loved his piano, in his spare time he enjoyed watching football (especially the Cowboys), stock car racing, fishing and horse racing. But most of all, he loved his family.

In addition to his loving parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy and Farris Ewings.

Left to honor and cherish his memory; his brother, James (Barbara) Ewings of High Point, NC; sister, Artmisha (Paul) Johnson of Atlanta, GA; uncle, Charles Thompson of San Diego, CA; aunt, Sarah Thompson of Trinity, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
