Claude Bernard Melton, affectionately known as CB, peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on July 20, 2024. Born on January 6, 1947, in Wadesboro, NC, Claude led a life marked by love, dedication, and service. Claude attended Anson County Public Schools.
His professional journey included notable careers at Black & Decker and Lorillard Tobacco before relocating to the Washington, DC area. There, alongside his beloved wife Sylvia, he discovered his passion for culinary arts, eventually becoming a well-respected chef.
Renowned for his impeccable style and love for sports, Claude was a devoted family man and a guardian to his loved ones. His caring nature extended beyond his family, as he generously volunteered at local homeless shelters, offering his time and compassion to those in need.
Claude was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Mary Melton, Rudolph Melton, William Melton, Lorene Alston, Mattie Melton, Betty Kersey, Bernice Melton-Craft, and Alice Melton. He is survived by his sons, Claude Bernard Melton, Jr. and Ricky Lamont Melton; sisters Peggy McCormick (Alfred), Clara Payden, Brenda Johnson, and Gwen Carter (Joseph); as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish his memory. Claude's legacy of love, kindness, and service to others will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace, forever remembered and dearly missed, leaving behind a legacy.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
