On Thursday, May 7, 2020 an Angel from Heaven visited our beloved Dad, Collie Earl Jones. Collie was born on May 4, 1939 in Greensboro, NC to the late Jezirus and Mabel Suggs Jones. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha; and brother, Napoleon.
He served in the United States Army from February 27, 1958 to January 13, 1961. After the military, he married Martha Jean Love and moved to Washington, DC. He painted cars, delivered mail for the United States Postal Service, and was employed by Goddard Space Flight Center; and eventually landed a System Analyst position with the Library of Congress where he retired.
He was a graduate from Federal City College (now known as the University of the District of Columbia.)
He is survived by two sons, Michael (Jacqueline) of Hyattsville, MD and Adrian of Alexandria, VA; one granddaughter, Alexia Queen; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Dumas of High Point, NC and Viola Jones of Harrisonburg, VA; one brother-in-law, Mark “Chuck” (Avis) Love of High Point, NC; cousins, Nancy, Geralda and Derryl of Baltimore, MD; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Mr. Jones may be viewed on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
