Mr. Corey Michael Dessio, 55, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024 after a brave fight with a long illness. Corey was born on March 2, 1969 and raised in early life in the Yonkers and Mt. Vernon areas of New York.
His mother, Alberta Foster and father, Frankie Coleman both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by loving grandparents, Nathaniel and Mary Dessio, who helped to rear Corey as a child; one son Nathaniel Dessio.
Surviving to cherish his memory are two brothers, Anthony Foster and Winston Foster, and Sisters Beverly Foster and April Foster.
Corey attended Mt. Vernon High School, and his family eventually moved to High Point NC, where he made many friends, impacted many people, and caught lots of fish!
Corey was employed most frequently as a chef, kitchen supervisor, for various institutions including High Point University, and was lastly employed by Hogan Transportation until failing health caused early retirement.
Corey was a family man in the purest sense of the word. He was a large, hard-working man in size and presence, with an infectious laugh, a wonderful sense of humor, and the self-proclaimed fishing champion of the Triad. Although he was not originally from the High Point community, he impacted many lives with his kindness, and loyalty to family and friends. He is truly missed by many.
On November 29, 1995 Corey married the love of his life, Sonya Anderson Dessio who survives of the home; Mr. and Mrs. Dessioβs marriage produced five beautiful children; three sons, Corey Dessio, Jr., Michael Dessio, and Johnathan Dessio of High Point, NC; and daughter, Akela Dessio who survives of the home; also left to cherish the memory of βGranddaddyβ are eleven grandchildren; two brothers, Anthony Foster and Winston Foster, and sisters, Beverly Foster and April Foster; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 3:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
