Mr. Dangbe Robert (Nya Diga) Sua died unexpectedly on February 5, 2025, at WFBH-High Point Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones. He was only 78 years old. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death.
Robert (as he was called by most people) began his life’s journey on December 16, 1946, to Sei Weledia Sua and Nau Minisia Gorpu Sua in Flumpa, Nimba County, Liberia West Africa. He was the fourth of ten children.
Robert received his education at Ganta Methodist Elementary School and Booker Washington Institute in Liberia. He migrated to the United States in 1976 with scholarship from LAMCO to continue his studies at North Carolina A&T State University. His education was interrupted because of the 1980 Liberian coup d'état and his scholarship was pulled. He was left in the United States without funding. He continued to pursue his education with the help of his future wife, his family, and a few dedicated professors who saw his potential. He evidently graduated from A&T with a BSc in Architectural Engineering. He was hired by Winston Salem State University as a project manager/engineer in the Facilities Management Department where he worked for 22 years, retiring December 2011.
Robert became an American citizen in 2005 which he felt was one of his great achievements.
He was a past member of Williams Memorial CME Church and served on the Building Committee as they were planning to build a new church. In 2007, he and his wife returned to St. Stephen Metropolitan AME Zion Church where he served as a Trustees until his illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Kau Tololeyon and three brothers, Romeo Sei, Richard Geh, and Richelieu Behn.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Dr. Lou Saunders Sua; daughters, June Minisiah Cole, Romelle Hunter, Robertha Sua, all of Liberia, Rhea (Michael) Lash pf Winston Salem, NC; sons, Lawrence (Choices) Sua of Liberia, Robert Christopher Sua of High Point, NC, and Stephen Saunders of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Martha Yah Autry and Jewel Yei Sua; and brothers, Leroy Pei (Constance) Sua, Dangbe Wuo (Louella) Sua, and David Zawolo Sua; and sister-in-law, Joyce Saunders; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Carolina Biblical Gardens. There will be a repast at St. Stephen Metropolitan AME Zion Church, 1012 Leonard Avenue, following the service.
Final arrangements are entrusted Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
