Mr. George Albert “Sonny” Talley was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. On August 1, 2025, he was called home by his Heavenly Father. Sonny was born on December 10, 1951, and lived a life marked by faith, dedication, and love. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lula Talley; a son, Antwan Chapman; siblings, Gwendolyn and Alvin Talley, and Helen Hargrove; his mother-in-law, Robbie Black; sister-in-law, Jackie Talley; and brothers-in-law, Ray and Ronnie Quick.
A lifelong resident of High Point, North Carolina, Sonny was a faithful member of Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ. He received his early education in the Warren County School System.
Sonny dedicated 43 years of service to the City of High Point until his retirement. Never one to sit still, he went on to establish his own successful landscaping business, Sonny and Sons, which became a proud extension of his hard work and entrepreneurial spirit.
Sonny leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy: his devoted wife of 48 years, Janice Talley of the home; Sons: Dominic (Robin) Quick of High Point, NC, and Shawn Evans of Hagerstown, MD; daughter: Terri Chapman, of the home; grandchildren: Nicholas, Makayla and Kenyon Quick; god children: Darlene Mason, Tatianna Covington, LaToya Murphy, and LaQuita Little, and Willis Covington; father-in-law: Bishop Alber Oliver (Virgina) Quick; sisters: Virgie Brown, Gloria (James) Glover, and Iva (William) Davis, all of High Point, NC; brothers: Danny (Diane) Talley, Larry Talley, Melvin Talley, Marvin “Dennis” (Marian) Talley of Jonesboro, GA, William “Ervin” (Renee) Talley, and Wayne (Tina) Talley, all of High Point, NC; uncle: Cepheus Hawkins, his only and oldest living uncle, of Bayshore, NY; he is also survived by: brothers-in-law: Oliver (Crystal) Quick Jr., Orrick (Ashley) Quick, Craig (Bennita) Curtain, and Melvin Louis (Verlette) Snead Jr.; sisters-in-law: Judy (Mike) Wiley, Olivia (Justice) Williamson, Kimbelynne Cardenas, and Marcelle Snead Allen his longtime friend, Al Anderson and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Sonny’s life was a testimony of service, kindness, and perseverance. He will be remembered not only for his strong work ethic and generous spirit but for the love he gave so freely to all who knew him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at H.W. Fields Cathedral, 1515 Willow Road, Greensboro, NC. Interment will follow at Guil-Rand Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
