Obituary For Mr. George Ray Alexander

Mr. George Ray Alexander quietly and peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at The Shannon Gray Rehabilitation and Recovery Center, Jamestown, NC following several years of declining health.

He was born on November 9, 1926 in Guilford County, NC, a son of the late Rayford and Lillian Mebane Alexander. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Mildred Jenkins, Maxine Ingram and Betty Black; five brothers, Monroe Mebane, Richard Joyner, Ray Joyner, Lester Alexander and Bobby Alexander.

After high school, George joined the United States Army. He was a World War II veteran and served as part of the Red Ball Express in Germany and other parts of Europe. George was united in marriage to his loving wife, Margaret Louise Kindle for 60 years until she preceded him in death in March 2010. He was employed with Myrtle Desk for 15 years as a glue machine operator and at Thomas Built Buses as a supply deliverer, where he retired after 30 years of service. As a child, George was a member of Celia Phelps United Methodist Church, Greensboro, NC. After marriage, he became a member of Clifton Grove Baptist Church and was ordained a deacon in the mid-1960s. George loved gardening, sitting on the carport with mama, watching the squirrels and birds build their nests and store food. George was an avid Dodgers baseball fan and a Minnesota Vikings football fan. He loved westerns and comedy, but he loved his family most of all! He was the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His favorite line was “Whatcha know good?” Today, we know that you are in heaven with mom, and that truly is good! Surviving to cherish precious memories are four sons, Rodney Alexander of Baltimore, MD, Steve (Creshendle) Alexander of High Point, NC, Reginald Alexander (Lynn) of Greensboro, NC and Rick (Mitch) Alexander of High Point, NC; three daughters, Brenda Alexander (Elmore) Graham of High Point, NC, Gloria Alexander (Norman) Elliott of Whitsett, NC and Watina Alexander Clark of Greensboro, NC; three brothers, Arthur (Gloria) Alexander of High Point, NC, John (Shirley) Joyner of High Point, NC and Leslie (Tina) Joyner of Allentown, PA; three sisters, Constance Miller of High Point, NC, Patricia Joyner of Greensboro, NC and Joyce Frazier of Easton, PA; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Johnnie Alexander of High Point, NC, Miriam Kindle of High Point, NC, Shirley Kindle of Pfafftown, NC; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Graves of Greensboro, NC and Clyde Dungee of Greensboro, NC; there are a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Clifton Grove Baptist Church, 3918 Abbotts Creek Church Road. Interment will follow at Clifton Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank Shannon Gray Rehab and Recovery and nursing staff for their care, Cuba, Linda, Melvin, Ebony, and so many others.

Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service Inc.
