Hamp Williams III, lovingly known as “Dobbie,” was born on October 28, 1957, in Marlboro County, SC, to the late Hamp Williams, Jr. and Bertha Lee Williams. On November 7, 2025, as the sun set on a life well-lived, Dobbie peacefully transitioned from time into eternity.
A proud graduate of T. Wingate Andrews High School, Class of 1976, Dobbie was an active student-athlete, participating in basketball, cross-country, and various clubs and organizations. He went on to become one of the first in his family to pursue higher education, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Augustine University in Raleigh, NC.
Dobbie dedicated many years to the textile industry, with Harriss & Covington Hosiery before retiring in 2024. Beyond his professional life, he was a mentor and guiding light to the young men in his family and community—teaching them resilience, wisdom, and the tools needed to navigate life’s challenges.
Known for his laid-back charm, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for the San Francisco 49ers, Dobbie was truly the life of every gathering. A true culinary soul, he found his greatest joy in feeding others—not just with food, but with warmth, laughter, and love. His warmth, generosity, and joyful spirit left a lasting imprint on all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his son, Nicholas Hickson; his parents, Bertha Lee and Hamp Williams Jr.; sisters, Elizabeth Lynch, Addie Lee Bridges, and Barbara Ann Campbell; and brothers. Ervin Williams and Larry Williams.
Dobbie’s memory will be cherished by his sisters: Julia Bridges (Andrew), Alberta Wallace (Prince), Carolyn Allen (Emery), Diana Cowans (Avery), Dorene Williams (David), and Patricia Tillman (Alonzo), all of High Point, NC; brothers: Donnie Williams of High Point, NC, Daniel Williams (Blanche) of Gibson, NC, and Saddiq Abdul-Baaqiy (Zineb) of Bradenton, FL; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends including Sonny Ledbetter, Barbara Lindsay, and Danny Clemons.
A celebration of Dobbie’s life will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Solid Rock Baptist Church, 903 E. Kearns Street, High Point, NC. Interment will follow at Guil-Rand Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 12:30 PM.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
