Obituary For Mr. James Arthur Jackson

Mr. James Arthur Jackson was born on February 20,1937 in Marlboro, S.C. to the late Booker T. Jackson and Costella Douglas Jackson.

During his formative years, he attended State High School where he studied in Marlboro Co. Training in Bennettsville, SC. He also enjoyed playing baseball and had dreams to attend college to become a doctor, but God had other plans for him. James had many versatile skills. He was called the “chicken” man where he worked for a man out of the triad area taking orders and delivering chicken. He also delivered the newspaper throughout the High Point area. Later on down the road, James had connections with someone where he could get apples. He came home one day with a lot of apples and shared with his family that he’d come up with this idea and started a family business. He started making candy apples and became the “candy apple man” in the neighborhood of Turnkey. James was also blessed with many other gifts of baking homemade goods, cakes, pies, also gardening of vegetables, plants, trees etc.

James’s parents had moved him and his siblings to Richmond, VA. Over those years, he gained responsibility, traveled, and worked between Richmond, VA, Farmville, N.C, High Point, N.C, where he worked his job until retirement. James was a hardworking man and always took care of his family no matter what. He also was a quiet man that kept to himself. Once he let you in his life you couldn’t get him to stop talking and sharing things with you about life, what he did and went through.

He was a member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church, High Point N.C

James was preceded in death by his parents, Booker T. Jackson and Costella D. Jackson; brother, Thomas Carl Jackson; sister, Sarah Lillie Jackson Wright.

I met James Jackson, who was sitting on the front porch of his late mother and father, Costella (Stell) and Booker T ("T") Jackson the summer of 1967, when my husband, Bobby Wright, introduced use, along with others. He greeted me with inviting and open arms, with his thick southern drawl of heyyyy. A relatively quiet man, but with a kind and loving heart who loved his sisters, Corrine and Sarah ("Sake"). Whenever Sarah (Sake) was making something sweet, he'd always ask, "are you going to make an apple or a caramel cake?" Both, were his favorite types of cake. And of course, she would make him both, along with a homemade fruit cake, especially for his birthday..

Condolences goes out to Aunt Bobbie Jean, all the children and family members. Uncle James, you will be missed by all.
