Mr. Jerry Alexander Gibson was born in High Point, NC on January 6,1939 to the late Helen Rebecca Gibson Russell. He slipped away from the cares of this world during the tender silence of the early morning on December 3, 2025, the air crisp, the sky a rich deep indigo edged with pale silver.
Jerry attended High Point’s public schools, graduating from William Penn High School, class of 1958. He was a masterful trumpet player and served as president and assistant director of the William Penn High School band. Additionally, he was president of the student council and the honor society and was also on the football team. After graduation, Jerry enrolled at Winston Salem Teachers College and later joined the United States Air Force. When his tour of duty ended Jerry settled in Staten Island, NY and after his retirement he returned to High Point where he lived until his death.
Surviving relatives to cherish his memory are eight maternal cousins: Frank Gibson (Cornelius) of El Paso, TX, Jo Ann Covington, Bettye Carter Jefferies (Henry), Letitia Beatty Johnson, William Covington (Vonzella), Henry T. Carter, Jr., Ronald L. Carter, and Barbara J. Carter all of High Point; he is also survived by a dedicated cousin, Dianne Huffman of Jamestown, NC and a host of other extended cousins.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at a later date.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
