Mr. John Walter Williams, 89, passed away Monday, September 28, 2026 at Meridian Center.
John Walter Williams, a beloved husband, father, stepfather, brother, uncle, and friend, was born on February 22, 1937, to the late Boyd Williams and Aimee Gibson Williams. He departed this life peacefully on September 28, 2026, at 2:00 a.m. John leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, family, hard work, and cherished memories.
John was educated in the Marlboro County School System. Later in life, he relocated to High Point, NC, where he became a member of New Zion Baptist Church, under the leadership of his nephew, the late Pastor James “Moe Boy” Purnell. John faithfully served the Lord and his church and was honored to serve as a Trustee.
John was a dedicated and hardworking man. He was employed by Marsh Furniture Company for more than 35 years, where he faithfully served until his retirement. His years of hard work reflected his commitment to providing for and caring for his family.
Uncle John Walter was a well-respected and beloved uncle to his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He had a special place in his heart for his family and especially enjoyed spending time with them at family reunions, gatherings, and other family events.
Some of the things Uncle John Walter especially enjoyed were coming down to the Picnic in Clio every year and attending family reunions. He loved being surrounded by family, enjoying the good food, fellowship, laughter, and the special memories made together. His presence at family gatherings will be deeply missed.
Uncle John had a special relationship with his niece, Vivian Kelly, and his nephews, Preston Brown and Theodore Glover. They held a special place in his heart, and the love and memories they shared with him will always be treasured.
John was also a faithful and loving husband. He shared 38 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Louise Williams, of High Point, North Carolina. Their years together were filled with love, companionship, family, and cherished memories. John will be deeply missed by Louise and all who loved him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd Williams and Aimee Gibson Williams, and his siblings, Luther Williams, Annie B. Glover, R.C. Williams, Freddie Williams, Theo Williams, Theodore Williams, Annie Kate McClain, Clevester Williams, Geneva Brown, and Savannah Williams Kollock. He was also preceded in death by his special niece, Sharon W. Castro.
John leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 38 years, Louise Williams of High Point, NC; his son, Richard Pergues; his sister, Minnie McInnis of Greensboro, NC; his step-grandson, Nicholas Robinson of High Point, NC; his stepdaughter, Pastor Linda Flesch (Deacon Joseph Flesch) of High Point, NC; along with a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and faithful friends.
John’s life was a testimony of love, faithfulness, family, and perseverance. He will be remembered for the love he showed to his family, his dedication to his work, his service to the Lord, and the many beautiful memories he created with those he loved.
Though his earthly journey has come to an end, the love he shared, the laughter he brought, and the memories he created will continue to live in the hearts of his family and friends.
Funeral service will be held Monday, October 5, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at New Zion AME Church 3136 Heustess Road, Clio, SC. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at New Zion AME Church Cemetery. Mr. Williams may be viewed on Sunday, October 4, 2026 from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel.
