Passed 10/05/2026

Obituary For Mr. Larry Eugene Diggs

Mr. Larry Eugene Diggs went home to be with the Lord on October 5, 2026, at WFBH High Point Medical Center. He was born on October 16, 1952, to George and Clara Diggs, who both preceded him in death, and brothers Charles, James, Melvin, and Lester Diggs.

Larry graduated from T. Wingate High School in 1970. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served for four years. Following his military service, he worked as a service technician at Piedmont Natural Gas Company for many years before retiring.

Serving the community was always one of Larry's greatest passions. He volunteered at Hospice and the Heart Center. His love for the youth inspired him to volunteer at Welborn Middle School. He attended most city council meetings, where he made numerous suggestions to improve the city and community. Eventually, he decided to run for a seat on the city council.

His love for music inspired him to sing in the Messiah with the Mary P. Brown Community Choir. As a faithful, dedicated member, he also sang with the Word of Life Church Choir. He spent many joyful hours listening and singing along with his favorite oldies goldies.

Larry truly loved the Lord and enjoyed talking with anyone and sharing his views about life and the Bible. Everyone who knew Larry loved him. He was always polite, considerate, and kindhearted, and he was willing to lend a helping hand, often with a smile. His hobbies included bowling, water aerobics, fishing, and traveling.

Larry was married to the love of his life, Elvenia Diggs, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by a stepson, Michael Harris (Regetta); grandchildren, Nadiyah, Elijay, and Aniya all of Kernersville, NC; three sisters, Patricia Smith, Bertha Lilly from High Point, NC; and Selena Barr of Greensboro, NC; one brother, Pastor Ronald L. Diggs (Joyce) of High Point, NC; one sister-in-law, Teresa Bennett of High Point, NC; a special niece, Rene Littlejohn of Greensboro, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Bro Larry had become a true friend of mine, a gentle giant in words in his words and deeds! He loved God with all his heart and people too. For him to have sight impairment I would see Larry everywhere; walking to volunteer at the School on Mountleu Street, Volunteering at HPMC hospital and at multiple bus stops. We worked together at the Family Life Center at Word of Life and he did everything by the book. He was a pray warrior and a bible thumping brother. He will be missed with his gentle, pleasant spirit! I am praying for you my Pastor Diggs and the entire Diggs family as you travel through the process journey of grief! Knowing that Larry's precious memories and quality you all spent together, God will give unto you beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for your mourning and the garment of praise for your spirit of heaviness. (Isaiah 61:3) Ameñ!

Larry attended the Visually Impaired Variety Program offered through High Point Parks & Recreation. I met him in 2021 when I started leading this program and he was the first person to introduce me to other members of the program. Whenever we shared in a meal together as a group Larry would lead our prayer. He was light for Christ and a light in our group. I remember we went to the Putt Putt Tournament and he won a trophy. He was shocked but they way he received the trophy and was congratulated, it was with such a kind a humbling spirit, like a kid who got a really neat gift! He smiled so bright, I'll never forgot that. I spent time talking and eating with Larry at the Lions Club Picnic on September 19 and in that moment did not know this day would come so suddenly, when I heard he had passed. I'm grateful to have known Larry, to have spent time with him and to be impacted by his presence, love for the Lord, and always looking out for others. I am so grateful God is drawing near to Larry's family and friends as we grieve his loss.
