Mr. Melvin O’Neal Strickland, 88, departed his earthly life on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Hospice Home at High Point after a long illness. He was born on March 4, 1933 in Surry County, NC and was the offspring of Melvin Lester Strickland and Alma Strickland. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Tene’ Strickland; sister, Elaine Cole and brother, Leon Strickland.
He proudly served six years in the United States Air Force.
He was devoted and committed member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Detroit, MI, where he served as a member of the Deacon Ministry and the Male Chorus. Melvin moved to High Point, NC in December 2014. He was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a member of the Deacon Ministry and Church School.
A solider that we know God said, “Well Done Melvin.”
He leaves to cherish fond memories; four sisters, Creola Sawyers, Rebecca Washington and Jefferlene Catchings all of High Point, NC; Keevy Anderson of El Paso, TX; one brother, James Strickland of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A private funeral will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will be held Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. Mr. Strickland may be viewed on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
