Melvin Winford Price, Sr. passed away at the Pine Ridge Nursing Facility in Thomasville, NC on Friday, March 29, 2024. He was born on July 3, 1943, in High Point, North Carolina to Samuel Price (deceased) and Samantha (Craver) Price (deceased).
Melvin attended William Penn High School where he met and married the love of his life, Jo Ann Miller Price. Their union brought forth three children: Keith Anthony Price (deceased), Melanie Price-Johnson (deceased) and Melvin W. Price, Jr. of High Point.
Melvin and Jo Ann joined First Emanuel Baptist Church where Jo Ann was a member of the choir. Melvin had a fervent love for God and the power of God, which sustained him throughout his life.
In his young adult life Melvin worked at City Transfer and Storage and was later hired at Sarah Lee-Hanes Brand in Winston Salem, NC. He worked there for over 25 years until he retired to care for his wife, Jo Ann. He loved taking care of her and did so until she passed in 2007. Jo Ann and Melvin loved fishing and they would spend countless hours on the fishing bank. The love they shared was like no other.
He was a mild-mannered man and found great joy in helping others. He had a funny sense of humor and could make you laugh even when you didn’t want to laugh. He would tell a joke and laugh harder than the person hearing the joke. He loved “hot dogs” and was very firm on how they should be prepared. Not many people knew he was an avid artist and would create works of art incorporating the finest details. He loved tinkering and was always taking things apart but not finding time to put them back together.
Melvin loved his family, his camera and his computer which contained thousands of wonderful pictures of beautiful, early morning sunrises, evening sunsets, flowers, birds, nature, and family members.
He is preceded in death by one sister, Fannie Price Robinson; five brothers, Samuel Theodore Price, Jr., Johnnie Price, Edwin Lee Price, Ray Thomas Price, and Johnny Roseboro; four sisters-in-law, Lula McIntosh Price, Carrie Lee Price, and Cassanda Roseboro and Lois Blockem.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Melvin W. Price, Jr. of High Point, NC; Devoted and loving Daughter in-law Tawana Price of High Point, NC; two Granddaughters, Cyre Price (Dytosh) Pearson, High Point, NC and Candis Johnson, High Point, NC; three Grandsons, Melvin (Tre) W.
