Obituary For Mr. Paul Ennis McAdoo, Jr.

Paul was born on September 11, 1940 in High Point, NC. He was one of six children born to the late Paul Ennis McAdoo, Sr. and Johnsie McRae Ingram. He peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, March 15, 2024 at Westchester Manor. Paul was also preceded in death by two sisters: Anne Elizabeth “Sue” Pruitt and Alice Lavern McAdoo; and his one brother, James Everett McAdoo, Sr.

Upon graduating from William Penn High School, Class of 1958, Paul joined the United States Army, where he was the Drum Major of the Army Marching Band while in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1964. Paul held employment with the United States Department of Commerce, NOAA, in multiple roles for 20 years. Not yet ready to rest after a decorated career, Paul went on to become the first African-American Chief Deputy Marshal for the Supreme Court of the United States, where he retired in 2004.

Paul married the late Beverly Love McAdoo. They settled in the Maryland/Washington D.C. area, where they raised two sons. Paul and Beverly were married for 43 years, until her death in 2006.

Paul resumed his membership at his family church home, St. Stephen Metropolitan AME Zion Church, when he moved back to High Point. While his health allowed, Paul cheerfully served as a member of the Senior Usher Board and the Trustee and Steward Boards.

While planning their 50th Class Reunion, Paul became reacquainted with childhood classmate, Nora Garlington. They were married in 2008, spending their Golden Years together. They enjoyed 15 years loving and caring for each other until God called Paul home.

He leaves to cherish memories from a life well lived, his devoted wife, Nora; sons: Paul III (Michelle) of Cheverly, MD, and Rodney of High Point, NC; step-daughter: Nicole (Derek) Brandon of High Point, NC; grandchildren: Wyketa (Michael) Patterson of Waldorf, MD, Andrey White of Camp Springs, MD, and Malik and Tyriq McAdoo of Cheverly, MD; step-grandchildren: Derek II and Jordan Brandon of High Point, NC; great-grandchildren: Lewin and Mylar Patterson of Waldorf, MD, and Andrey White, Jr., of Camp Springs, MD; sisters Mary Pearline McAdoo and Johnsie Marie Williams of Greensboro, NC; sister-in-law: Myrtle Garlington of High Point, NC; brothers-in-law: George (Sharon) Garlington, Jr., of Fairfield, CA, and Cecil (Justine) Garlington of Oak Ridge, NC, William Penn High School Class of 1958 and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen Metropolitan AME Zion Church. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
