Mr. Ralph Silas Ewing, 77, peacefully entered his eternal rest on Thursday, May 28, 2020. He was born December 16, 1942 in Montgomery County, NC to the late Floyd Ralph Ewing and Edna Lamar Greene Tyson. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Mr. Jerry “Dyke” Greene and Mrs. Corrina Greene whom he dearly cherished.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life for 53 years, Mrs. Willie Mae Cole Ewing; uncle, Weldon Greene; his father and mother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Will and Talma Cole; three brothers, James Ewing, Charles Ewing and Stanton Ewing; three sons, Maurlon Ralph Ewing, Sr., Ron Jernal Ewing and James Stine; two grandsons, Tremel “T.J.” Bethea Ewing and Kalon Kristopher Ewing.
He attended schools in Montgomery County. He worked numerous years and retired from Hatteras Yachts, where he was a Fiberglass Specialist. He had a love for yachts and the ocean.
Ralph loved God, family, music, and he loved giving and helping those in need in the neighborhood. He had a big heart and the gift of giving. He was affectionately known in his younger days as “Big Shot Bootsie” and in his later days as “Papa Ralph”. Everyone loved Papa Ralph’s fried fish. It was the best.
He leaves to cherish his memories, two daughters, Delia Ewing (Gregory) Bates and Gwyneth Ewing (Jamie) Winford; one son, Joseph Ewing of Chicago, IL; one grandson he and his wife raised as their son, Maurlon Ralph Ewing, Jr.; one sister, Esther (Robbie) Fowler of Candor, NC; one brother, David Ewing of High Point, NC; one sister-in-law, Francis Ewing of Candor, NC; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A private funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Mr. Ewing may be viewed on Monday, June 1, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Special thanks to Dr. Paul Coughlin and Dr. Kalsoon Khan both of Wake Forest Baptist Health; two sons-in-law, Jamie Winford, Gregory Bates and grandson, Triston Ewing for all the love and special attention they gave to their father-in-law and grandfather; and much love to our family for pulling together.

To the Ewing Family. Ralph may have passed on, but his love and legacy will live forever in the hearts of all who knew him. He had a warm and caring spirit. He had a positive influence on the lives of his family, neighbors and community. We know he loved his family, neighbors, and community as we, his family, neighbors and community loved him back. Ralph was an active member of the Burns Hill Neighborhood Association until his health declined. Even after declining health, he would help where he could. He will surely be missed by the Burns Hill Community. Please know your sadness is shared by me and members of the Burns Hill Community as you say goodbye to your loving father.
